Duty Manager – 3-Star Hotel (Ullapool, Scotland)

Position Type: Full-time

Shift Pattern: Split shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays

Reports to: General Manager / Deputy Manager

Role Overview

As Duty Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the hotel during your shifts, ensuring exceptional guest service and smooth coordination across departments. This role requires flexibility and commitment to a split-shift schedule, typical in small hospitality teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Guest Services
• Act as the main point of contact for guests during your shift.
• Handle complaints and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
• Ensure a welcoming and helpful atmosphere throughout the hotel.
• Operational Oversight
• Supervise front office, housekeeping, and food & beverage operations.
• Ensure smooth handovers between split shifts.
• Monitor service standards and address any shortfalls.
• Staff Coordination
• Support and guide team members during shifts.
• Assist with training and onboarding of new staff.
• Maintain morale and teamwork across departments.
• Health, Safety & Security
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Respond to emergencies and incidents as per hotel procedures.
• Secure hotel premises and assets during your shift.
• Administrative Duties
• Complete shift reports and communicate key updates to management.
• Assist with stock control and basic financial tasks (e.g., cashing up).
• Attend briefings and contribute to operational planning.
  

Requirements

• Previous experience in hotel operations or hospitality management.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to work split shifts and adapt to changing schedules.
• Calm under pressure with excellent problem-solving abilities.
• Knowledge of hotel systems (PMS, POS) is an advantage.
