Following a number of recent significant contract wins in the Energy Sector, SLR has opportunities for
EIA Consultants or Senior EIA Consultants to join our Planning and EIA team. Candidates would ideally be based close to our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices, but other areas of the UK would be considered. Applications are welcome from
Environmental Impact Assessment experienced candidates with a
focus on onshore renewables.
The role
With 30+ individual Environmental, Advisory and Engineering disciplines, SLR offers clients an unrivalled breadth of expertise from which to draw upon for project delivery. This is an exciting opportunity for early career and experienced individuals to provide key project management support on EIAs and planning consent applications, primarily on onshore wind, solar and battery storage projects.
As well as onshore renewables, you may work across different development types including hydrogen production facilities; linear infrastructure; waste management; minerals; energy transition; and built environment projects. There are also opportunities to play an important support role in the delivery of complex planning projects (including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects and Electricity Act applications), working closely with our consenting team, technical specialists, and specialist partners.
Your responsibilities will be varied, but will include the following:
- Support or lead on client communications for individual projects
- Assisting in the preparation of fee proposals
- Support or lead on the preparation of a range of high-quality technical reports, including screening requests, scoping requests, and Environmental Statements / EIA Reports
- Support senior project managers with management of multidisciplinary teams to complete EIAs and associated deliverables.
- Manage project risk registers and schedule and issue periodic progress reports
- Help identify and escalate key risks, decisions and issues to clients and SLR senior management and ensure key decisions are integrated back into the project
- Play a key role in the quality of the EIA deliverables
- Interface with the wider project stakeholders including engineering teams, planners, consultation leads, and legal advisors etc. The role may involve short term travel across the UK/Europe depending on client/project sites as required.
You could potentially be based in any of our UK offices but there is a preference for Edinburgh, Glasgow or London.

About You
You'll be an early career or junior Project Manager in EIA / Planning with some experience in the consenting of complex projects, ideally within the Onshore Renewable Energy sectors. Credible and cooperative, you will have a broad skill set that allows you to provide key project management support. Your strong interpersonal skills, coupled with your technical knowledge, will mean you can successfully engage and build trust with senior colleagues, clients and stakeholder groups.
You Will Also Have
- Excellent information management and report writing skills.
- Demonstrable client management capabilities and the ability to manage client relationships.
- Proven consultancy (or similar) experience building, managing, leading and contributing to complex multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of the consenting processes in Scotland and England, and the EIA Regulations.
- Some experience of the power and energy sectors.
Membership of IEMA (or other relevant professional body) would be an advantage.
