THE OPPORTUNITY
An Electronics Engineer is required to join a collaborative team developing enhancements to an established product for a multinational Defence company. The role involves supporting the electrical aspects of the system design, including the creation and update of interconnection diagrams and the specification of cables, connectors, and harnessing. This position is based on the Client's site.
The ideal candidate: 3–5 years of experience in electronics or electrical design, ideally in a Defence or Aerospace environment Hands-on experience with interconnection diagrams, wiring schedules, and cable assemblies Familiar with the selection and specification of military- or aerospace-grade cables, connectors, and accessories Understands electrical and signal integrity considerations, such as shielding, grounding, and EMC Able to interpret system-level schematics and translate them into detailed wiring or cabling information Works effectively under minimal supervision once familiar with project requirements Communicates well with mechanical, systems, and manufacturing teams Maintains clear and organised design documentation aligned with configuration control processes
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and maintain electrical interconnection diagrams (ICDs), wiring schematics, and cable assemblies
- Specify cables, connectors, and associated hardware in line with project and defence standards
- Support the integration of electrical systems with mechanical and software teams
- Update legacy electrical designs to meet current standards and requirements
- Assist in resolving cable or connector issues arising during integration and test
- Manage BOMs and drawing packs associated with electrical harnesses
- Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure components meet specifications and lead times
- Provide input to system-level design reviews Attend daily stand-ups and report technical progress and challenges
Essential
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- 3–5 years of experience in an electronics or electrical engineering role
- Strong understanding of electrical wiring practices and interconnect standards
- Experience in Defence, Aerospace, or other highly regulated sectors
- Understanding of EMC, signal integrity, and cable routing best practices
- Organised and detail-focused, with a methodical approach to documentation
- Comfortable reading and interpreting system and hardware interface control documents (ICDs)
- Works well in cross-functional teams and communicates clearly Desirable:
- Current or recent UK Security Clearance (SC); security-cleared candidates will be strongly positioned for this role
- Familiarity with configuration control and change management processes
- Understanding of power distribution and grounding strategies in complex systems
- Experience supporting electrical integration and system test
- Familiarity with Defence electrical harnessing standards and best practices
