Electrical Engineer (Generators) - Submarines

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Rolls-Royce as a Electrical Engineer to join our Systems Design & Integration Team within the Rolls-Royce Submarines (Warrington) business unit, supporting our current and future projects involving working with diesel generators, pumps, motorized valves, and safety-critical power systems.
You will play a vital role in supporting the field team, assisting in cabling, system commissioning, and ensuring smooth coordination between engineering tasks and project documentation.
You will support specification and procurement of Electrical equipment to ensure suppliers are familiar and compliant with the engineering requirements of the contract.
A significant portion of this will focus on verifying equipment will perform within its operating environment (equipment qualification). You will manage the signal exchanges between client and in-scope equipment. You will ensure cabling between equipment is correctly defined and planned routing is compliant with client specifications.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has a strong grasp of technical documentation, spreadsheet-based tracking, and clear communication with on-site teams and project managers.

What You Will Be Doing
- Undertake design schemes of electrical equipment associated with the project you are involved with, specifically focussing on managing the control, operation and integration of these systems.
- Take responsibility for specifying generators, excitation systems, and controls at the design and concept stage by assisting in selecting and reviewing specifications for pumps, solenoid valves, and actuated valves Define protection settings, power system architecture, and load distribution philosophies for nuclear facility upgrades by performing and verifying cable calculations, volt drop, and protection device coordination in line with BS 7671
- Support the installation and commissioning of diesel generator systems, control panels, and motor circuits by producing and managing equipment schedules e.g. electrical load lists, instrument schedules, alarm lists etc and producing and reviewing multidiscipline equipment specifications and component datasheets.
- Produce and review design manuals (operation and maintenance manuals), single line diagrams, loop diagrams and other design reports/documents necessary to record design rationale, assumptions and convey information.
- Work with suppliers to define and carryout appropriate Substantiation, Verification and Validation of equipment and systems.

For This Role We Are Looking For Someone With
- Electrical engineering qualification (Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent) with relevant experience in electrical installation or commissioning in regulated or high-integrity environments
- Working knowledge of BS 7671 Wiring Regulations, cable sizing, and circuit protection, with understanding of excitation, synchronization, and load management for critical backup systems
- Eligibility for work in the nuclear industry and ability to obtain security clearance
- Experience with diesel generator control systems
- Familiarity with nuclear QA processes, traceability, and configuration control
- Awareness of ONR expectations, BS EN 61508/61511, and nuclear safety case principles
- Experience of using IBM DOORS for requirement management is desirable.
- Competent in developing and reviewing Block Cable Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Control Logic Diagrams and other high level Engineering documents.

Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place.
