Job Overview
We are looking for Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurses for the Emergency Department at Wexham Park Hospital.
You will act as a skilled practitioner and team leader within the ED to ensure that the highest quality of care is given to patients.
You will assist in the clinical management of the department by ensuring the efficient and effective use of resources.
Main duties of the job
To assist the ED department to achieve government targets
To demonstrate effective budgeting practice, exercising care and economy e.g. booking agency staff, appropriate use of supplies
To be involved in the recruitment and selection process assisting the matron
Support the local resolution, investigation and response to complaints
Assist the matron to monitor / manage sickness and absence within the department in line with trust policy
Attend meetings and cascade information to staff as appropriate
Recognise trigger points to violence and aggression and have knowledge of the trust policy relating to violence and aggression and be able to defuse situations within the department and know the correct mechanisms for summoning help and for reporting such incidents
In an emergency situation the nurse will be required to respond speedily and swiftly for the patients well-being
To take the lead on staff appraisals, addressing development needs and monitoring performance.
To maintain a clean and safe environment.
To co-operate with Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust in ensuring that statutory regulations, codes of practice, local policies and health and safety rules are adhered.
Any other duties, which may be requested by the manager to facilitate the smooth running of the department.

Essential criteria
- Current NMC registration
- Post-registration qualification in emergency care module at level 7
- Practice Assessor/Supervisor Course
- BSc (Hons) Degree or working towards
Desirable criteria
Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial experience as a Band 6 in an emergency department
- Experience of taking charge in an emergency department
- Ability to prioritise patient care and the allocation of resources within the department
Desirable criteria
- Leading on innovative practice
- Audit process
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Basic nursing skills
- IV drug administration
- Competence in triage
- Evidence of clinical competence in critical care assessment
- Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of managing performance within the PDP process
