Job Description
An engaging subject matter expert in the timely provision of employee relations support to the business that is consistent, compliant, and aligned to Costain people policies, protocols and processes. Plays a key role in the practical application of policy, management coaching, training, early intervention, and a leadership role in driving improvement and effectiveness of all aspects of Employee Relations.
Plays an important role in the day-to-day implementation of our People Plan and our focus on colleague engagement and experience.
Responsibilities
- Leadership of the team acting as primary point of contact for employees and managers on employee relations issues (inc. case management) providing guidance, support, and proactive solutions. Responsible for the effectiveness of the HRA team (organisation, capability and capacity).
- Working with other teams, responsible for implementing the new operating model (as appropriate for ER matters)
- Accountable for ensuring that cases are managed in a timely manner, risks are managed, and metrics are effectively tracked.
- Enable the understanding, implementation, and action of people policies and procedures that promote a positive work environment, culminating in reduced absence and cost, a reduction in settlements and time to manage
- Provide advice and guidance on complex investigations into employee complaints, grievances, and disciplinary issues, documenting findings and recommending appropriate actions.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant employment laws and regulations, staying updated on changes and advising management accordingly.
- Act as the primary point of contact for any work winning activity requiring Employee Relations content
- Oversight of any interaction or engagement with Trade Unions including any contract/client Industrial Relations
- Ensure that any learnings or improvements from cases are recognised, understood and escalated for implementation into business-as-usual practices to mitigate risk
- Develop and deliver training programs on employee relations topics, including conflict resolution, disciplinary, grievance, performance management and absence and attendance issues
- Prepare regular reports on employee relations metrics, trends, and outcomes for senior management review
Essential
QUALIFICATIONS
- Educated to Degree Level or equivalent
- CIPD Level 7 qualified or equivalent
- Committed to engaging with CPD (Continuing Professional Development)
- Up-to-date knowledge and proven application of employment legislation
- Excellent stakeholder management across all levels
- Knowledge and experience of managing and leading large-scale ER change programmes, such as restructures, TUPE transfers etc.
- Knowledge and experience of working with Trades Unions
- High level of written/oral communications skills
- High level of organisation
- Ability to plan proactively and exercise initiative to manage workload and meet deadlines
