About the role
National Energy System Operator (NESO) is on a journey towards a sustainable and secure energy future. Together we build on this momentum, advancing the Electricity System Operator’s (ESO) plan for zero carbon operability of the electricity system by 2025.
Are you an analytical thinker with a passion for energy and a strategic mindset? Do you thrive in a dynamic, real-time environment where your insights directly contribute to national security and efficiency?
Join our team as an Energy Operations Strategy Analyst and play a pivotal role in shaping Great Britain's cleaner, greener electricity system.
This is a critical and exciting opportunity to directly contribute to the security and efficiency of our national electricity supply. As an Energy Operations Strategy Analyst, you will be responsible for coordinating and optimising the energy strategy from two weeks ahead to day-ahead. You'll provide essential insight into system operational issues for the electricity control room, working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
You will provide crucial data analysis and clear explanations to the Control Room team, not just producing data but presenting findings in an understandable format for diverse audiences. Your role involves delivering day-ahead operational analysis with strict daily deadlines (typically by 4:00–5:00 PM each day).
Through coordination with European Transmission System Operators, you'll analyse supply and demand margins, advising internal and external stakeholders to enhance situational awareness.
We're looking for someone passionate about process improvement and energy, with a strong understanding of data visualisation to aid communication across all stakeholder levels.
This role requires accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to meet tight deadlines, including working on a rota covering a weekend every 6 weeks in our Wokingham office, requiring regular attendance.
Key Accountabilities
Strategic Assessment: Conduct day-ahead to week-ahead margin surplus assessments and facilitate key decisions to optimise system operations.
Operational Insight: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ongoing operability issues and opportunities, translating complex data into clear explanations for the Control Room team.
Critical Reporting: Compile and distribute critical reports, keeping stakeholders informed and aware of system status and performance.
Process Improvement: Develop strategic improvements for system plan coordination and quality and engage in post-event analyses to refine processes and communication.
Real-time Support: Serve in analytical and liaison capacity during real-time incidents, delivering day-ahead operational analysis under strict daily deadlines.
Strategy Communication: Develop and communicate operational strategy internally, presenting findings in an understandable format.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external partners to support operations, ensuring tools meet operational needs.
