As a Band 2 Track Maintenance Engineer (Data) you will develop a good understanding of Track engineering, with a particular focus on Track Data and increase your knowledge of wider industry theory and practice. You will be working in the Track Maintenance Engineering team, which is involved with a wide range of Track disciplines, including track quality, wheel rail interface, rail defect management, noise & vibration, mechanised maintenance, and technical support.
Day-to-day, your main focus will be on the collection, processing, management, and analysis of engineering data, and applying the data to develop solutions to track engineering issues. There will also be some on site work. You will work alongside experienced Track Engineers and Data Scientists, contributing to improving the management and maintenance of the Track infrastructure across the network and in different modes.
You will have grounding or experience in the fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering (with skills in Data Analysis and Programming), and its practical application to industry. This role will involve combining engineering knowledge with data analytics skills to solve problems. Experience with Excel is essential, and an in depth understanding of Python and some knowledge of SQL are desirable. This position will give you the opportunity to work with data analytics tools. Experience in automating data analysis, and a desire to grow these skills is strongly desired.
Successful applicants will have their knowledge and experience enhanced within the discipline of Track Engineering. You will build a good understanding of how the track operates within a system and grow in your understanding of complex issues, and how to communicate to a wide range of stakeholders across the TfL organisation. You will be expected to continue to develop your expertise within the team and share your knowledge with other engineers to aid their development and support the team.
Skills
Essential Skills Knowledge and Experience
- Strong analytical data interpretation and assessment skills
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Programming skills (Python preferred)
- Ability to creatively solve problems – establishing solutions with existing resources
Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of engineering theory and principals
- Understand Data structure and formatting
- Understand the Railway & Transport sector (preferred)
Experience
- Experience of collaborating across teams and in different asset areas
- Experience of developing and delivering technical projects
- Experience of data management, data processing, and analysis
