Your future role
Take on a new challenge and apply your mechanical domain expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll report to the Site Train Design Metier Manager, Derby and work alongside the mechanical architecture, integration, systems and specialists teammates.
You'll manage the Carbody & Structures Team on Site. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business to promote and ensure deployment of Engineering Instructions, process and tools for the Domain on Site and adherence to the QMS (Quality Management System) for engineering.
You’ll specifically take care of the design of the carbody shell on all projects and the structural calculation & validation & Crashworthiness of the entire train.
We’ll look to you for:
- Ensuring the proper follow-up of the Engineering Quality and Delivery on Team Work packages for the Site.
- Ensuring understanding and application of the Design rules, processes, and tools.
- Ensuring that design reviews are prepared and documented as per the project/program schedule and to follow-up the main open actions.
- Ensuring proper collaborative work with other Teams/Functions.
- Defining mitigation plans covering a engineering risk identified on the scope.
- Ensuring proper budget allocation within Team/ Domain
- Managing the development of your team to ensure the adequacy of the capacity vs workload vs skills and the transfer of activities if needed.
- Defining Team/Domain fixed costs and workload to secure project QCD commitments and formalising hypothesis taken.
- Defining Carbody architecture, structural calculation & crashworthiness calculation for the complete train
- Reviewing technical deliverables generated by the team and other teams relevant to Team/Domain
- Allocating adequate resources to the projects/programs/tenders.
- Applying and follow-up the People Management Cycle on time for your team according to N+1 and HR instructions.
- Supporting the Team/Domain in the resolution of issues and challenging actions (multi-domains) in particular those involving other stakeholders (internal or external).
- Reporting on Team/Domain activities progress and alerting in case of main issue (capacity, skills, rule applicability, etc.).
- Validating relevant Team/Domain deliverables and securing planning.
- Collaborating with the Central Engineering team for continuous improvement of the your Team/Domain.
- Due to the nature of the role the successful candidate will be required to work at height and in enclosed spaces from time to time.

- High level of experience in Mechanical Engineering applied to Railway products (or Automotive domain or Aerospace domain)
- Experience in Carbody design/ structural calculations is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in technical communication and documentation
- Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and cross-functional teams
- Attention to detail and ability to ensure compliance with internal rules of data structuration
- A continuous learning mindset to stay updated on industry advancements
- A good level of experience of direct engineering team management
- Good Communications and interpersonal skills
- Structured and organised
- English operational in read/writing and technical meetings
