Introducing the the Web Platform Team 👋
You’ll be joining the Web Platform team, part of the wider Platform Apps group. We’re the team responsible for building and maintaining the foundations that underpin the entire web experience at Trainline. Our work enables product teams to ship features with speed, safety, and confidence—supporting modern frontend frameworks, experimentation tooling, build systems, and shared UI components.
As an Engineering Manager for Web Platform at Trainline, you will... 🚄
- Lead a high-performing engineering team focused on developer experience, frontend frameworks, and scalable experimentation tooling.
- Support your team’s growth through coaching, mentoring, and performance development, ensuring each engineer is engaged and progressing.
- Own the technical roadmap, working with Product and Architecture to evolve the platform’s capabilities while balancing product delivery and long-term technical health.
- Partner cross-functionally with Product Managers, Designers, Architects, Security and other Engineering teams to deliver shared capabilities that scale across the business.
- Drive platform quality through strong technical oversight across performance, accessibility, observability, and reliability.
- Manage hiring, onboarding and team growth, helping to shape a diverse and inclusive engineering culture.
- Unblock your team, identifying and removing friction in day-to-day development and scaling our tooling and processes to meet the needs of a fast-growing product organisation.
- Promote experimentation best practices, empowering teams with the tools and guidance they need to test, learn and ship faster.
- Champion a healthy engineering culture grounded in continuous learning, pragmatic decision-making, and shared ownership.

- Are an experienced line manager who’s built and supported effective, motivated engineering teams.
- Have a solid engineering background in web technologies, frameworks like React, build systems, or developer tooling.
- Know how to inspire and lead with empathy, building trust-based relationships with your team and stakeholders.
- Are comfortable operating in complex, cross-functional environments—balancing short-term delivery with long-term platform investment.
- Have a track record of working on platform teams, experimentation infrastructure, or performance-critical web systems.
- Are a strong communicator who can clearly articulate technical concepts to both engineers and non-technical audiences.
- Embrace agile practices and modern development workflows.
- Care about sustainability, accessibility, and building things that scale and last.
