The post holder will work with the lead Nurse/Modern Matron and multidisciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing care and staff development, as part of the ward team. As a Band 6 nurse you should act as a role model, showing evidence of the specialist skills and knowledge that will enable you to deliver prescribed treatment and care for patients in an individual and sensitive manner.
You should be able to liaise with the multidisciplinary team to ensure care is provided in a co–ordinated and collaborative manner. The nurse should maintain contact with the patient’s relatives and friends and provide access to information and support. The post holder will work with the lead nurse and multidisciplinary team members including administration, and anaesthetic and medical staff in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing care and staff development, as part of the ward team.
To be flexible in approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified.
Take a full medical and social history from a patient to assess fitness for surgery.
- Work alongside anaesthetists where necessary to complete pre-op pathway.
- Have previous experience working in gynaecology and have a solid understanding of gynaecological procedures to enable information to be passed to patients effectively.
- Have previous experience working within a clinic setting taking medical history from patients.
- Be competent in observations, blood taking, ECG’s as part of the pre-op pathway.
- Have good communication skills and be confident speaking to patients, relatives and staff.
- Be sensitive and compassionate of patients’ conditions and needs.
- Be competent at interpreting results of blood tests and confident to act on results safely as per guidelines.
- Have excellent IT skills and be able to navigate many IT systems confidently.
- Have experience working autonomously and be able to make decisions on patient care independently.
