We make health happen

At Bupa, we’re on a mission to help people live longer, healthier, happier lives—and to make a better world. With no shareholders, our focus is firmly on our customers and the communities we serve. We’re proud to be leading a digital transformation that’s reshaping healthcare, and we’re looking for a Lead Enterprise Architect to help us drive that change.

This role sits at the heart of our technology strategy, helping us build smarter, faster, and more connected systems across our UK businesses. You’ll be instrumental in setting the standards and frameworks that guide how we design and deliver solutions—making sure they’re future-ready, secure, and aligned with our purpose.

Key Responsibilities

As Lead Enterprise Architect, you’ll:

  • Develop and lead enterprise-wide architecture strategies that support Bupa’s long-term goals
  • Create and maintain a library of design patterns and standards to support consistent, high-quality architecture
  • Champion the adoption of healthcare interoperability standards like FHIR and HL7 across our UK businesses
  • Represent Bupa in industry-wide standards bodies and working groups
  • Build and maintain integrated roadmaps that visualise architectural transition states across business units
  • Work closely with teams across Data, Security, Risk, Privacy and Legal to improve ways of working
  • Support architects and tech leads in delivering pattern-led design
  • Drive automation and modernisation in architecture governance
  • Make sure our architecture tooling is fit for purpose and supports our frameworks effectively

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who brings a mix of strategic thinking, technical expertise, and a collaborative mindset. You’ll need:

  • At least 7 years’ experience in architecture, with 3+ years in healthcare
  • Strong understanding of UK primary and secondary care services
  • Experience in senior architecture or technical leadership roles within large organisations
  • Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7, OpenEHR)
  • Proven ability to create service roadmaps and investment cases with senior stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to create compelling visualisations and CxO-level materials
  • Commercial acumen and the ability to build business cases and estimate costs
  • A consultative approach and strong stakeholder management skills
  • A passion for innovation and continuous learning
