JOB DESCRIPTION

ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYST


Key role within the Environmental Department supporting the delivery of Loch Duart’s site development strategy and assisting in the delivery of its regulatory compliance process for both existing and new sites. Reporting to the Environmental Manager and working throughout the business alongside colleagues from Technical, Production, Sales and Finance as well as interfacing with external parties. Specifically:


SITE DEVELOPMENT

  • Contribute to and coordinate aspects of the site development application process to secure all necessary regulatory licences and consents.
  • Produce and collate all relevant materials/data/research to support site development applications and the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process.
  • Liaise and coordinate with external contractors as appropriate, on the completion of surveys, mapping and other assessments necessary for site development/ EIA processes.
  • Conduct internal and external stakeholder engagement, with the ability to work across regulatory frameworks to inform the site development/EIA processes.
  • Conduct both on-line and in person consultations with statutory authorities, local communities and non-statutory bodies.
  • Respond to consultation requirements to inform the site development/EIA processes.
  • Assist in the compilation/writing of EIAs, including the analysis of appropriate environmental data.
  • Update Company procedures to meet the latest regulatory government guidance and/or Company operational practices and therefore facilitate site developments.


CONSENT COMPLIANCE

  • Project manage named consent renewal applications as required.
  • Assist in maintaining the Loch Duart site/consent databases as required.
  • Provide contribution to the required regulatory reporting; data returns and written submissions to ensure continued compliance.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the Scottish aquaculture sector and environmental interactions/regulatory regimes relevant to the Scottish salmon farming industry.


ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

  • Act as a key member of the Environmental Management System (EMS) Working Group, working to monitor the environmental impact of Loch Duart operations.
  • In conjunction with other members of the EMS Working Group provide contribution to the maintenance of the EMS.


REGULATORY & OTHER STAKEHOLDER LIAISON

  • Work to uphold good relationships with official authorities, statutory advisory bodies and other stakeholders, including attendance at Industry Liaison meetings as requested by the Environment Manager.


GENERAL

  • Deputise for the Environmental Manager in their absence.
  • Participate in fieldwork and travel to sites/Loch Duart offices as required.
  • When representing Loch Duart carry out duties in a responsible and professional manner at all times.
  • Undertake training as proposed by the Company and attend scheduled performance appraisals
  • Carry out all operations in accordance with Company Health & Safety requirements.
  • Report any non-conformances with recommendations for improvement to the relevant management.
  • Prepare appropriate contributions to the annual budget and monitor its allocation through the year.


KEY/DESIRED SKILLS

- Qualified to degree level in environmental/marine science or comparable discipline

- Experience of environmental impact assessment process

- ISEP (IEMA) membership or equivalent

- Broad understanding of environmental and regulatory frameworks in the fish farming industry

- Experience of GIS applications

- Experience of environmental sampling/current meter deployments

- Driving licence
