Responsibilities include;
The Environmental Manager will lead environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives across our construction and civil engineering projects. They will ensure that all activities meet legal, regulatory, and client requirements while promoting best practices in environmental management construction and civils build.
Key requirements;
- Environmental Compliance & Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific Environmental Management Plans (EMPs).
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, and planning conditions.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate environmental impacts.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., Environment Agency, Natural England) and local authorities.
- Promote sustainable construction practices, including waste reduction, carbon management, and biodiversity enhancement.
- Support the delivery of BREEAM, CEEQUAL , or other sustainability certifications.
- Identify opportunities for environmental innovation and continuous improvement.
- Provide environmental training and toolbox talks to site teams and subcontractors.
- Provide technical input into design development to avoid or mitigate environmental impacts.
- Prepare reports and presentations for clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
- Lead investigations into environmental incidents and non-conformances.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to monthly HSQE reporting.
- Support emergency response planning and pollution prevention measures.
- Assist the environmental planning and consents process for construction and civil engineering projects, ensuring all environmental approvals, permits, and planning conditions are met in line with legal, regulatory, and client requirements.
Essential
- Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline .
- Previous experience in environmental management within construction or civil engineering.
- Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and construction best practices.
- Experience with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and lead auditing.
- NEBOSH Environmental Certificate or similar qualification
Desirable
- Membership of IEMA, CIWEM, or similar professional body (Chartered status desirable).
