Job Overview

The EPR Developer will use specialist knowledge to support the routine operation and development of the Trust’s Electronic Patient Record. They will be responsible for achieving the design set out and agreed by EPR Programme and business.

A key part of this role is the identification of the organisation’s changes required by liaising with key stakeholders to ensure all elements of the system are managed effectively. This includes managing all architectural documents in order that the iterative build will be robustly and effectively managed.

The post holder will be required to develop relationships with counterparts at other local hospitals, as well as other organisations using the same clinical system/s.

  • 1x Full Time (37.5 hrs) Permanent Position
  • 1x Full Time (37.5 hrs) Fixed Term Position until March 2026 (6-7 months)

Main duties of the job

The Role Will

  • Work closely with the business to continually develop and enhance the Trust EPR and other clinical systems to ensure measurable benefits are delivered.
  • Support and monitor progress of the Clinical System Administration Team
  • Be responsible for ensuring that support requests are fully implemented to the design specified
  • To use specialist knowledge to assist in optimising the trusts clinical systems
  • To create and amend approved clinical e-forms
  • To assist in providing training to end users in the trust when required
  • To take the lead in resolving system issues
  • To act as a focal point should the trusts Clinical Analysts, Development and Reporting teams require assistance

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

  • To work closely with the business and project teams to continually develop and enhance the Trust’s Electronic Patient Record and or other clinical systems to deliver their full potential.
  • To carefully manage development so that the systems are changed in a controlled manner in line with strict governance that will be applied.
  • To assist in overseeing the day to day support and maintenance of the EPR ensuring all associated activities are appropriately timetabled and delivered.
  • To ensure that all processes for the Back Office Function are documented and understood.
  • To agree and put in place new processes for the Back Office function when required.
  • To pass on specialist knowledge to the Clinical Systems Administration team, when there has been major development in order that they can support the system for BAU stages
  • To deal with changes or initiatives that may impact the EPR and to ensure that all changes are controlled and managed. This involves:
    • Initiation: To advise users and managers on how the EPR can be designed to support the provision of services and ensure that any change requests are appropriately sponsored and authorised by both key stakeholders. This will be undertaken in liaison with the Clinical Systems Project Managers and Head of Clinical System Informatics who will advise and provide input where necessary.
    • Specification: Liaison with users to analyse, interpret, define and refine the requirement and then develop a technical solution.
    • Testing: To test the solution within a test environment and subsequently authorise it as acceptable for release into the live environment. This will also involve co-ordinating activities of other staff to facilitate the transfer of the test system into the live environment.
    • Training: To assess the training need and then either arrange or undertake the training required, whether classroom or in the workplace.
    • Implementation: To co-ordinate the implementation process with User Support Team and users.
    • Documentation: To document the solution and associated procedures and ensure that there is sufficient version control.
    • Monitoring: To undertake or put in place the appropriate monitoring mechanisms so that the solution is monitored and any errant behaviour tracked and corrected.
    • Post activation review: To undertake a post activation review to ensure that the solution is performing as expected and is acceptable.
    • Acceptance: To facilitate the acceptance process by agreeing or confirming with users that the solution is acceptable and/or identifying any on-going issues.
  • Take ownership of issues relating to Trust Wide Clinical applications.
  • Using specialist knowledge and experience able to offer practical solutions to end users, thoroughly testing alternative solutions to problems before actioning in a live environment
  • To fully test and suggest solutions to problems and understand how changes may effect systems used elsewhere in the trust
  • To diagnose problems and their causes, and to either solve or escalate problems to the Service Provider
  • Responsible for arranging meetings with end users to resolve issues
  • Adhere to Trust Back Office policies and procedures including change control mechanisms
  • To produce monitoring reports or undertake audits and checks to help monitor the service provided by Back office to ensure work is completed in a timely fashion and to a high level of accuracy.
  • To take part in and on occasion lead regular Team Meetings and assist in the development of policies and operational procedures.
  • Acquire knowledge of the Trust’s patient systems and the healthcare process to understand the impact of Back Office maintenance
  • Provide Subject Matter Expert advice to users in all areas of Clinical Systems usage
  • Assist Testing Team with resolution to system issues
  • Provide support to users post training.
  • Actively participate and lead within team environment to offer suggestions that would enhance the use of applications
  • Participate in system testing for release of enhancements and changes to the systems.
  • Assist the team in implementing changes to the system.
  • Perform system management tasks to main the integrity of the system.
  • Maintain records of changes to the system.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the system Data Quality & Integrity.
  • Attend training sessions as required, maintaining and improving the post holders’ skills.
