PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE RELOCATING FROM CLARENCE ROAD TO WATERSIDE ROAD WATERSIDE INDUSTRIAL PARK LS10 1RW In APRIL 2026.

Two posts available- Working Monday – Friday on a two week rota

Week 1- 9am – 5pm

Week 2 – 10am – 6pm

About The Role

As our Equipment Hygiene Assistant –you’ll will play a key role in the supply of equipment to support daily living tasks and independence. This is achieved by cleaning equipment which is returned from peoples home when no longer required.

You will also work closely with the warehouse and maintenance staff within the service to identify equipment which can be recycled and to maintain minimum stock levels.

The role is integral to our Leeds Community Equipment team to support and enable people to live safe, independent, and fulfilling lives, supporting health and social care statutory responsibilities. The service is important to the prevention agenda and provides a vital gateway to independence, dignity and wellbeing for people living in the community. The provision of these products supports avoidance of hospital admission, enables safe rapid discharge from hospital and prevents premature take up of care including residential placements.

The service operates 7 days a week and provides the delivery, ordering, maintenance, service and repair of community equipment following a professional assessment. The service also collects and refurbished equipment for it to be reissued. This role is essential for the recycling of equipment for Adults and Children.

Job Description

Job purpose

Leeds City Council is the lead provider for Leeds Community Equipment Service. The staff working within the service are a mix of Leeds City Council and Leeds Community Healthcare employee.

Leeds Community Equipment Service’s role is to provide daily living and nursing equipment for people to use in their own home. Once the person has no further use for the equipment it is returned/ collected, cleaned, refurbished and then reissued. New equipment is also purchased.

The main purpose of the job is to clean returned equipment so that it can be used again and to keep the cleaning area tidy.

Responsibilities


  • To take items of equipment apart before cleaning them.
  • To clean equipment as per manufacturer’s instructions.
  • To use the different chemicals needed to clean the equipment and the cleaning area.
  • To follow COSHH instructions.
  • To store equipment safely within the cleaning area.
  • To load and unload equipment into and out of the washer and dryer.
  • To operate the washing machine and dryer.
  • To hand wash items of equipment.
  • To put clean and dried equipment into bags.
  • Keep cleaning area clean and tidy
  • To wear the uniform and footwear provided
  • To follow instructions from the supervisor
  • To let the supervisor know about any problems straight away
  • To check and if required record serial numbers onto stock system.
  • Use computerised systems to record, collate and retain all relevant details of assembling, checking and cleaning equipment and to ensure that equipment status can be tracked electronically.
  • Label equipment with cleaning date.
  • To complete final inspection and quality check of equipment before items are picked for delivery.
  • To maintain appropriate records for audit purposes.
  • To ensure that equipment is moved and stored safe and securely within the store.
  • Carry out duties independently without routine supervision, but with someone generally available for reference.
  • To comply with all duties under an employee’s responsibility under Health and Safety legislation and policies of Leeds City Council.
  • Ensure all Local Operational Procedures are adhered to.
  • To work in a team with both LCC and LCH colleagues.


Qualifications

Evidence of numerical and literacy skills e.g. GCSE pass at Grade C or above in English and Mathematics or equivalent (this may include relevant work experience)

Essential requirements It is essential that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria for the post. Candidates will only be shortlisted for interview if they can demonstrate that they meet all the essential requirements.

Skills Required


  • To respect the need for confidentiality
  • To maintain the cleaning equipment and cleaning area to an acceptable high standard of cleanliness, replacing all cleaning materials when required.
  • To be able to clean basic equipment to a high standard.
  • Ability to work unsupervised for part of shift and to organize and plan to meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
  • Able to accurately enter/retrieve data information from information systems.
  • Ability to follow and understand basic instructions, especially manufacturer’s instructions.


Knowledge Required


  • Of the requirements of policies, procedures and staff instructions, including responsibilities under the Health and Safety, and COSHH regulations and policies.


Experience Required


  • Of communicating effectively and positively in several ways with a variety of people.
  • Of working to deadlines.
  • Previous work experience of working in a cleaning environment.
  • Previous experience of using cleaning equipment.
