About The Role
We’ve an amazing new opportunity to become our new Estimator, reporting into the Cost and Estimating Lead within our Asset Portfolio Management Office (PMO). You’ll join a team of Estimators contributing to our National Leader ambitions. You’ll be a skilled Estimator with direct experience of working in a fast-paced PMO environment.
The role is essential to the effective performance of the estimating function to ensure appropriate, quality information and data is available; enabling strategic portfolio planning and accurate cost forecasting.
In addition, you will be responsible for ensuring that accurate estimates and cost plans are produced, analysis is undertaken to understand cost variances and data is communicated clearly to stakeholders.
We’re looking for you to prepare accurate estimates in line with NWG estimating systems (iMOD / iMOD Express – in which you’ll be trained) and NWG processes and procedures, along with providing support by assisting in the scoping and cost comparison of solutions on pre-feasibility estimate requests. You’ll also be providing accurate cost estimates for projects and contracts at all key stages of the project life- cycle, incorporating whole-life costing and carbon.
You’ll be analysing variances between estimate versions and comparison with actual costs, providing periodic advice and guidance to key stakeholders and suppliers e.g. On Cost Analysis. We’re looking for you to take ownership for estimates in a specific asset base and conduct peer review and validation of estimates prepared by other system users, NWG employees or supply chain in accordance with iMod governance requirements. You’ll build strong working relationships with customer stakeholders and data service providers.
About You
We’re looking for you to have a proven QS, or Estimating background, along with experience within a building / construction environment. You’ll also have proven experience of utilising estimating software to support detailed and high-level cost estimates in a Capital Programme Environment.
You’ll have some great skills too, including extensive knowledge of estimating processes, procedures & tools in a construction environment and of engineering construction methods, along with a detailed working knowledge of quantity surveying / cost estimation codes & practices.
We’re looking for you to have a knowledge of contract procurement & contract management and a working knowledge and application of Standard Methods of Measurement within the construction industry. You’ll be able to accurately interpret scopes of work, engineering drawings and specifications, with an understanding of NEC3 / 4 contracts too.

About Asset Management & PMO
The Assets Directorate understand the health of our assets, invest wisely and maintain them to continue to provide safe, reliable and resilient services to our customers today and in the future.
We have launched an ambitious transformation programme to drive a real step change in how we deliver our capital projects. This requires the development of a high-performing PMO to provide a central controls function delivering impactful performance reporting, estimating, schedule and risk management, and governance. The overarching objective of the transformation programme is to transition from a hybrid PMO consisting of NWL staff and contractor support, to an entirely inhouse model.
