We are looking to appoint an Events Manager on a c.12 month maternity cover basis.


The Events Manager is a member of the EventScotland team and has a key role in delivering Scotland’s National Events Strategy – Scotland the Perfect Stage.


Working on multiple projects with a variety of budget levels and event expertise, ranging from £5,000 to excess of £200,000 investment across a range of sporting and cultural events.


The post holder will have close working relationships with other key players within the events industry, including Event Owners, Scottish Government, International Sports Federations and National Governing Bodies of Sport, Creative Scotland, Local Authorities, UK Sport, Sport Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, Highland and Islands Enterprise and other key departments and teams within VisitScotland.

Contract Type: Maternity Cover 12 months - full time (35 hours) and part time (28 hours) applicants welcome

Salary Grade: Grade G £42,081 - £47,095 FTE

Last Date for Submissions: 31st August 2025


This role can be based out of any VisitScotland office location across Scotland. VisitScotland operates a hybrid working culture, partially office and partially home based.

Responsibilities

  • To act as a member of the overall EventScotland Team and contribute to all EventScotland work as required.
  • To ensure that all events supported by EventScotland contribute to the VisitScotland Corporate plan and the national event strategy ‘Scotland The Perfect Stage’
  • To assess, bid for, secure, develop and create events which will deliver significant economic impact and/or international media profile for Scotland and specific regions of Scotland and oversee the delivery of these events to a world class standard in partnership with key stakeholders.
  • To underline EventScotland’s role in leading the delivery of Scotland the Perfect Stage and working as a team within VisitScotland by providing leadership, knowledge and expertise to engender a culture of best practice within the events industry.


In order to be considered for the Events Manager role, we ask that you can demonstrate in CV and Covering Letter the following:


  • Educated to degree level with knowledge and expertise, along with proven track record, in the national and/or international events industry in a sport or cultural context.
  • Event planning and delivery experience.
  • Experience of working in sport and / or cultural sectors.
  • Excellent working knowledge of relevant IT and software applications such as Microsoft office – including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and / or other software applications.
  • Knowledge of Business Planning and Budgeting.
  • Knowledge of Marketing, PR & Sponsorship.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to present event concepts, ideas and proposals to small and large audiences in order to gain understanding, buy-in and support.
  • Ability to prioritise and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, flexible and continually changing environment and willingness to work as required.
  • Experience of working with a range of partner organisations and of building and maintaining relationships.
  • Project management experience, including work across a range of organisations operating in a complex environment in the successful delivery of multiple projects simultaneously.
