Brief Description
Route Services is a division of Network Rail that provides the Routes with services so they can help Network Rail deliver a better railway for a better Britain.We support the Routes with a myriad of services and supplies they need to maintain and operate the railway To learn more, please click here to watch our video.
This role sits within
Supply Chain Operations (SCO) , an area of the business which supplies and delivers the logistics, materials, components, rail and road fleet that enable the maintenance and renewal of the railway.
SCO keeps the materials, machinery and components required by its customers moving – making sure they are on-site when needed so work can go ahead as planned and on schedule. Watch our video Working in Supply Chain Operations

About The Role (External)
You will review and validate the outputs from the Plain Line Pattern Recognition (PLPR) data, Track Geometry data and other systems as necessary.
You will decide on faults, check on assets, and deliver appropriate action response.
Key Accountabilities
- Carry out work safely and efficiently in accordance with safe systems of work procedures, method statements, standards or other relevant instructions.
- Inspect, verify and record all infrastructure defects and faults presented by the processing systems and report defects and faults to the nominated control centres.
- Record and report system failures and other reasons for the non-delivery of data in accordance with company procedures
- Accurately report all work completed/not completed and produce/maintain records as required
- Support the review and monitoring of system functional performance, working with the Measurement Systems Maintenance team and suppliers to develop and deliver remediation activities as required
- Support the validation, calibration, product acceptance and implementation of new and existing examination technologies, systems and vehicles as required
- Undertake work and associated duties for which you are trained and competent.
- Contribute to your own development and that of others.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.
Essential
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge and experience of permanent way inspection.
- Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures and instructions.
- Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post, required by business need.
- Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained the appropriate level of knowledge gained through equivalent relevant experience.
- Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.
Desirable
- Experience in measurement systems.
- Understanding of the root causes of track geometry faults.

Location: This position is based in Derby.
Hours: 35 hours per week. This job is a rostered position including weekends with an average 4 days a week in the office.
Salary range: £37,199 per annum.
