The kind of person who just gets stuff done?

If you're the one who notices when things need doing – and actually does them – this Facilities Assistant role at Cambridge Enterprise could be a great fit. You'll be at the heart of a building that supports world-changing ideas, making sure everything runs smoothly and looks the part, every single day.

Why this role could be right up your street:

This is a varied, people-focused role where no two days are quite the same. Day to day, you’ll help keep the Hauser Forum running like clockwork:

  • Covering the front desk when needed – greeting visitors, answering calls, and stepping in when our receptionist is away
  • Setting up meeting rooms and event spaces, making sure AV kit is working and everything’s ready for action
  • Keeping communal areas – inside and out – clean, tidy and welcoming
  • Carrying out regular health and safety checks and helping induct new building users
  • Coordinating with contractors and suppliers to get things fixed or sorted

From time to time, you’ll also roll up your sleeves and handle small maintenance tasks yourself – whether that’s a bit of weeding outdoors, moving furniture, or fixing something minor. While hands-on jobs come up now and then, the core of this role is about keeping everything ticking, solving problems before they happen, and creating a space where people can focus on doing their best work.

You’ll be a key part of the team that helps Cambridge Enterprise run well – not just in the background, but as someone people rely on. It’s a role that comes with trust, responsibility, and the chance to learn and develop across all areas of facilities – from event support to emergency response.

What we’re looking for:

We’re after someone who’s:

  • Experienced in a facilities or similar role – you’ve got a practical mindset and know how buildings work
  • Friendly and confident talking to everyone from visitors to contractors
  • Organised and comfortable doing routine admin and keeping systems up to date
  • Happy to pitch in with occasional hands-on work, like moving furniture or light repairs
  • IT-savvy – you know your way around Word, Excel and Outlook, and you’re keen to pick up new systems
  • Calm under pressure and quick to take the initiative when something unexpected happens
  • Big on service and reliability – you’re the kind of person others trust to get things done properly
  • Comfortable doing the lifting, carrying and moving of furniture, fruit deliveries etc. as needed

Bonus points if you’ve got:

  • Experience supporting events or seminars
  • Fire safety training or experience as a Fire Marshal
  • Any background in health and safety admin or checks

Diversity and equality matter:

These are our ideal requirements, but we know some people are less likely to apply unless they meet every single one. At Cambridge Enterprise, we promote a diverse, inclusive and empowering culture, so if you feel you have most of the skills and experience needed, we’d love to hear from you.

If you have any questions about the interview process, or if you need any reasonable adjustments, please don’t hesitate to contact Natalie or the People and Culture team at [email protected].

Why Cambridge Enterprise?

We’re at the heart of Europe’s most successful research and technology cluster, and we’re on a mission to bring innovation to life – making a difference to society, the UK economy, and the University of Cambridge. We connect the innovative minds of the University’s academics with the funding, start-up expertise and commercial relationships they need to help their ideas thrive.

Our success stories include world-changing innovations that began as university research. Cambridge Enterprise has helped bring to life everything from DNA sequencing technology to pioneering work in artificial intelligence. We’ve supported breakthroughs in single-cell analysis, carbon capture, and the miniaturisation of environmental sensors. More recently, we’ve backed the development of smart electric vehicle charging technology, helping tackle one of the key challenges on the road to net zero. These ventures show what’s possible when brilliant ideas get the right support — and now, we need a Facilities Assistant to help keep it all running smoothly at our vibrant West Cambridge site.
