Job Description
Environment Agency – Monitoring Field Team (Sussex/South East)
Be part of the solution. At the Environment Agency, your work directly protects rivers, seas, and wildlife while tackling climate change and shaping a sustainable future.
We’re seeking motivated individuals to join our Monitoring Field Teams in Pevensey or Rye. You’ll carry out vital environmental monitoring—rivers, bathing waters, effluents, macroinvertebrates, diatoms, groundwater, and fisheries—helping safeguard ecosystems and communities.
You’ll train to become Officer‑in‑Charge for electric fishing surveys, gain experience in boat work, and use innovative scheduling tools to enhance delivery. You’ll collect and interpret data, mentor colleagues, and engage with the public and partners to ensure high‑quality outcomes.
This is a hands‑on role: fieldwork can be physically demanding and requires resilience in all weather. Working independently, you’ll need to be self‑motivated, safety‑conscious, and organised. In return, you’ll develop specialist skills, play a key role in incident response, and make a tangible difference to the environment.
Join us to build a career with purpose, where every day contributes to a healthier planet and a better future for everyone.
The team
We collect field-based samples and environmental data for local, national, and statutory requirements. The data collected provides key information to serve diverse community and environmental needs.
The SSC and South East teams are dispersed. The teams primarily cover Sussex and Kent and surrounding areas. You will be expected to cross boundaries to support other teams.
This is a field-based role and requires long, extensive driving in urban and rural locations.
