The Role: Mid-Level to Senior Associate – Financial Institutions Group (London)
Lazard is seeking to recruit an Associate to join the FIG team in London. The FIG team provides significant exposure across the entire financial services ecosystem, advising on a full range of transactions, involving, amongst others, public takeover & defence, cross-border, financial sponsors and corporate carve-outs. The Associate will play a central role on transactions and client interactions, as well as contribute to the team’s collegiate culture, with a focus on talent development and collaboration.
We are looking for a proactive, enthusiastic and motivated individual, with three to five years M&A experience. Previous FIG M&A experience will be viewed favorably.
We’ll trust you to:
- Be responsible for the day-to-day project management of transactions and marketing efforts and play a supporting role in FIG M&A idea generation and business development;
- Play a key role in FIG M&A transaction execution, including contributing to negotiating and closing transactions;
- Understand clients’ objectives and offers creative solutions to issues for potential/existing FIG clients, based on deal context;
- Be proactive in approach to FIG projects and seeks ways to deliver quality results in an efficient manner;
- Lead junior team of Analysts in achieving goals of transactions and act as an effective project manager; delegates and supervises effectively;
- Lead communication with internal and external teams;
- Effectively manage your own work and that of juniors; takes responsibility for accuracy; quality checks finished products with regards to content. Responsible for the accuracy of numerical work produced by junior bankers before delivering the final product to senior bankers;
- Foster an inclusive work environment; encourages an open exchange of ideas and views;
- Purposefully develop team members; mentors and coaches; provides feedback; appropriately includes the team in calls/meetings and client follow ups; acts as a role model to juniors;
- Leverage the Lazard network across offices, industry and product groups;
- Form trusted relationships with client teams;
- Demonstrate professionalism, accountability and sound judgement;
- Represent Lazard well in all situations; upholds the Firm’s reputation. Contributes to firm-wide initiatives including recruitment, training, professional development and other activities.
You’ll need to have:
- Gained significant M&A transaction experience within an investment banking environment. Previous Financial Institutions M&A experience would be helpful but is not essential;
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to maintain relationships with colleagues and clients at all levels;
- Strong written skills;
- Outstanding quantitative and qualitative analytical skills;
- Solid understanding of financial modelling and processes relevant to M&A (e.g. valuations, company overviews, etc.);
- Strong knowledge of finance and accounting practices to support M&A activity;
- The ability to take the initiative and function independently, balanced with strong team skills;
- The ability to deliver requested materials to senior bankers in a timely manner;
- Awareness of the regulatory environment;
- A high standard of professional and ethical conduct, adhering to legal and regulatory requirements of the banking environment in accordance with Lazard policies and procedures.
