Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Finance Analyst to join our Finance Team in Canary Wharf.
Role Purpose
An opportunity to join the Balfour Beatty plc Group finance team based in Canary Wharf, London. Reporting to the Group Senior Finance Analyst and Head of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), this role will require the provision of financial data and analysis to enable decision-making on all aspects of financial management of the Group – including current performance, annual budgeting, and longer- term planning. It is an opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of the Group’s existing operations and vision for the future.
What you'll be doing
General
- Liaise closely with the Group FP&A and wider finance team to provide a comprehensive decision-support service, including the provision of financial information and analysis to the Group Executive and the Board.
- Support the wider Group Finance team (Reporting and Consolidation) in monthly processes and external reporting requirements (variable depending on wider team resources).
- Provide adhoc support to other Group functions such as HR, Work Winning and Investor Relations, where necessary.
Monthly & Quarterly Reporting
- Maintain and enhance SBU financial reporting packs used to facilitate monthly and quarterly business reviews.
- Facilitate and coordinate regular updates to the Groups financial forecasts to enable informed decision making by Senior Group Management. Ensure forecasts are robust through regular dialogue and challenge with the Strategic Business Units (SBUs) finance teams.
- Perform reviews of project performance, including challenging assumptions and ensuring key judgments are well understood and in line with Group accounting policies.
Half Year and Full Year Reporting
- Prepare financial information to aid external reporting requirements (half year report, annual report and associated results announcements).
- Assist in coordinating the biannual Group review of key projects risks and judgements across all SBUs.
- Preparing reporting of these key project risks and judgements to the Audit Committee ahead of the Half Year and Full Year results announcements.
Who we're looking for
Essential attributes
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Experience in use of HFM or equivalent financial consolidation system
- An ability to understand, interpret and analyse financial and non-financial information
- Good Excel and report writing skills
- Strong analytical capability and business writing skills
- Drive, attention to detail and a ‘can-do’ attitude
- Well organised and structured thinker
Desirable attributes
- Understanding and experience of application of accounting principles relating to construction projects
- Familiar with financial reporting cycles in listed companies
- Experience in dealing with ‘big data’
- Proficient in using Power BI
- Experience in creating Power BI reports using Power BI Pro
