The Role
To ensure the effective financial management and reporting for the Barnes Aerospace UK Subsidiaries (Newton Abbot, Motherwell, Burnley and 4 holding companies) and actively contribute to the financial planning and strategic growth of the organisation as a key member of the Senior Management Team.
To lead and oversee the day-to-day activities of the finance team and ensure the companies finance function is organised and efficient and produces accurate and timely financial and management information.
Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures in accordance with statutory regulation and best accountancy practice in order to safeguard the assets and financial interests of the company.
Improve value in all areas of the business by managing and reducing operational and production costs and implementing effective and robust financial strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the strategic management by developing and maintaining finance strategies that support business aims. Management of the finance function and leading and directing the UK finance team.
- Key strategic partner to site leaders and exec team, contributing to business planning, growth strategy and key commercial decisions.
- Providing independent financial support to all teams/departments.
- Development of all annual budgeting and forecasting processes, including quarterly forecasting updates, variance analysis, margin analysis and standard costings.
- Detailed monthly reviews of P&L, balance sheet and cashflow, providing actionable insights and business improvements on variances vs plan and trend analysis to business leaders.
- Closely working with operational teams to review and improve productivity, efficiency, and utilisation of direct labour across all product lines and revenue streams.
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, policies & procedures. Timely production of accurate and up-to-date internal and statutory financial reports. Implementation and effective maintenance of appropriate systems and controls that guarantee the integrity of any data produced. Lead and initiate liaison with HQ Finance Team
- Review, update and maintain standard costing system and other management information systems used by the Finance department. Report on variances between actual and standard and initiate improvements where necessary.
- Financial modelling and performance analysis. Advise on the financial implications and consequences of business decisions in a timely manner.
- Regularly review and implement corporate governance procedures, risk management and internal controls.
- Support and liaise with external audit in order to ensure to financial integrity and probity of the business. Produce requisite data and information for the successful preparation of statutory accounts
- Ensure that the payroll system is maintained as accurate and up to date and that employees are paid correctly and on time. Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements, processes and procedures for PAYE and VAT payments and returns.
- Ad hoc projects as directed.
Job Requirements
- Significant experience at a Senior Financial Controller/Director level in a multinational manufacturing business with a minimum £35m turnover.
- CCAB (preferably CIMA) qualified.
- Proven experience of managing a finance team.
- Good working knowledge of ERP systems
- Ability to prioritise responsibilities under pressure and be self-motivating able to recognise and introduce improvements.
- Up to date knowledge of accountancy legislation (US and UK GAAP)
- Computer literate, with advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Good attention to detail.
- Able to communicate effectively and concisely at all levels of the organisation.
