West Berkshire Council is seeking a Finance Manager to join our Finance and Property Service, reporting to the Service Lead - Management Accounting. About The Role
As Finance Manager, you will be responsible for:
- Leading a team of finance professionals to deliver high-quality financial management and business partnering services
- Ensuring accurate and timely production of management information, including budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
- Providing expert financial advice and guidance to service managers and senior leaders
- Contributing to the year-end closure of accounts process, including supporting the preparation of relevant notes and disclosures
- Monitoring and reporting on income and expenditure against budgets
- Identifying and advising on financial risks and opportunities
- Supporting the Service Lead with ad-hoc financial analysis and projects
About You
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Qualified accountant (CCAB or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience in a finance role
- Experience of managing and leading a team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture
- Strong business partnering skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with non-finance colleagues
- Excellent technical accounting skills, including knowledge of public sector accounting standards
- Proficient in financial systems and software, with advanced Excel skills
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide meaningful insights
- Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to present financial information to a range of audiences
- Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
