The role
As a Finance Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be in a leading role within our Babcock Central Accounting team in the Finance Business Services department with focus on the Marine, Mission Systems and Naval Nuclear business sectors.
Day-to-day, you’ll utilise working with Finance Managers to drive standardisation and optimisation of finance processes, and controls across Babcock Finance with particular focus on journal and balance sheet processes.
- Leading and managing capable and motivated people in delivering a high-quality service to the Sectors
- Managing the transition of remaining FBS activity into the team as we standardise scope across the FBS function
- Maintaining strong controls and processes as we migrate entities from IFS to SAP ERP accounting systems
- Team management including objective setting, development plans, coaching and task delegation
- Effective management of month end and year end processes to ensure that activities are performed accurately and to tight deadlines
- Review and approval of non-contract specific repeatable journals for UK entities, including monthly accruals and prepayments, maintaining a strong control focus
- Full oversight of the Balance Sheet reconciliation process for the Sectors, leveraging input from the wider finance community to ensure completeness, accuracy and audit compliance in line with Group policy
- Providing management information to Sectors on the performance of their balance sheets
This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements, based at either of our Bristol, Plymouth, Leicester or Rosyth sites.
Essential Experience Of The Finance Manager
- Hands-on experience of managing and developing a team within a Finance function
- Strong experience in reviewing and improving finance processes with a fresh perspective
- Technical finance skills, with proven ability to understand and interpret accounting principles (being able to explain technical accounting to non-technical, non-financial staff)
- Experience of Finance IT applications (e.g., IFS, SAP, Navision, BPC, TMS)
Qualifications For The Finance Manager
- Qualified Accountant with a recognised professional qualification (ACCA, ACA, ACMA, CIMA, ICAEW, ICAS) or equivalent / similar.
