Tax Specialist / FP&A – Oil & Gas

Location: London Hybrid

Contract

We are seeking an experienced Tax Specialist or FP&A professional with strong exposure to the oil and gas sector to join our team. This role requires in‑depth knowledge of Ring Fence Corporation Tax (RFCT) and UK upstream taxation. The successful candidate will support tax compliance, tax provisioning, and statutory reporting across multiple legal entities.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Compliance & Reporting

Prepare and manage quarterly Advance Corporation Tax payments (QIPs) – three times per year.
Prepare Operating Plan cash tax numbers and Legal Entity (LE) cash tax figures.
Produce PRT (Petroleum Revenue Tax) returns at a field level; although the rate is nil, detailed returns are required due to carry-back opportunities.
Prepare and submit annual corporation tax returns (CT600) for relevant legal entities.

Compute current tax, deferred tax, analyse permanent differences, and prepare tax notes for statutory accounts.

Populate Effective Tax Rate (ETR) calculations and prepare insightful commentaries.

Upstream Taxation (Oil & Gas)

Calculate RFCT (Ring Fence Corporation Tax) and prepare all supporting schedules.
Compute Supplementary Charge (SC) taxable profits and associated liabilities.
Perform PRT computations, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Calculate tax‑adjusting items specific to upstream operations.

Financial Controls & Review

Conduct thorough Trial Balance (TB) and ledger reviews to validate tax balances.
Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual tax provisioning, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
Support audits and respond to tax authority queries as required.

Experience & Qualifications

4–5 years of relevant experience in Tax

or FP&A, ideally within the oil and gas sector.

Mandatory knowledge of Ring Fence Corporation Tax (RFCT).

Strong understanding of UK upstream fiscal rules, including SC and PRT.

Advanced Excel skills and strong financial acumen.

Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities.
