Animal Friends is looking for a
qualified Financial Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or QBE) with strong cashflow forecasting, month end & year end accounts & controls experience to join our team for a 12-month maternity cover contract.
Working closely with our Financial Controller, you'll play a pivotal role in maintaining financial integrity, delivering best practice across accounting processes, and supporting both internal and external reporting.
Base salary up to £57000 DOE with excellent benefits including 25 holiday days (plus your birthday off), Paid day off for charity work, Group life assurance, private medical insurance, and pet insurance discount.
What you’ll get up to as our Financial Accountant:
In this role, you’ll help ensure sound financial operations in a growing, dynamic environment. You'll be responsible for:
- Owning and delivering accurate cash-flow forecasting and balance sheet integrity.
- Preparing month-end and year-end accounts, working collaboratively across Finance.
- Overseeing regulatory reporting, including ESG, KYC, and capital planning.
- Leading on corporation tax compliance and PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA) processes.
- Maintaining and improving accounting policies, ledgers, and reporting frameworks.
- Providing critical audit and compliance support and liaising with external advisors.
- Driving process improvements and automation, ensuring controls are effective and scalable.
- Supporting the wider business through training, documentation, and financial education.
- Helping to embed a culture of continuous improvement and finance best practice.
What we’re looking for:
- A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) or QBE with strong technical grounding.
- Demonstrated expertise in cash-flow management, corporation tax, and financial controls.
- Experience with accounting standards, month-end processes, and audit preparation.
- A proactive mindset with a methodical approach and high attention to detail.
- Knowledge of PSA (PAYE Settlement Agreement) and regulatory reporting.
Nice to Have
- A background in a regulated sector, ideally insurance.
- Experience in private equity-backed or highly leveraged environments.
- Familiarity with ESG reporting and capital planning.
- A strong communicator with the confidence to deputise for leadership when needed.
