Financial Accountant

Altum Consulting is partnering with a long-established charitable foundation that is seeking a Financial Accountant to support its finance function during a key period. This is an 18-month, fixed-term contract role working up to 28 hours per week. Based in central London with hybrid working (typically one day per week in the office), this is an exciting opportunity for a qualified accountant who is motivated by social impact and enjoys working in a values-led, collaborative environment.

Reporting into the Senior Finance Manager, the Financial Accountant will play a key role in maintaining financial integrity across the organisation. You'll manage core financial accounting processes, ensure robust internal controls, and deliver accurate and timely reporting to support decision-making.

As the Financial Accountant, your role will involve:

• Managing monthly close and reporting cycles, including reconciliations and journals
• Leading invoice and payment processing, supervising a Finance Administrator
• Preparing monthly management accounts and variance analysis for budget holders
• Managing investment accounting and processing transactions with the Investments team
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and reporting pack preparation
• Preparing statutory accounts, VAT returns, and other regulatory filings
• Maintaining and reconciling financial ledgers
• Supporting cashflow management and capital planning
• Contributing to financial systems development and process improvement
• Fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement

The ideal candidate will:

• Be a qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA) or have equivalent experience
• Have strong technical knowledge of financial accounting principles
• Be confident in presenting financial data to non-financial stakeholders
• Be highly proficient in Microsoft 365 and finance systems
• Be self-motivated, detail-oriented and deadline-focused
• Bring strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
