Job Description
As a Financial Accounting Manager, you will contribute to the accurate and timely delivery of statutory financial reporting, monthly financial processes, and external audit requirements. You will also take responsibility for managing and coaching a small team.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
- Lead the preparation of financial statements for inclusion in the organisation’s Annual Report and Accounts, in line with statutory and governmental reporting standards.
- Act as the key liaison for the external audit process, managing audit queries, evidence submissions, and stakeholder communications.
- Deliver accurate submissions to HM Treasury, including Whole of Government Accounts and Supply Estimates, ensuring deadlines and reporting standards are met.
- Oversee the balance sheet reconciliation process and ensure fixed assets (both tangible and intangible) are accurately maintained and reported.
- Support lease accounting under IFRS 16, collaborating with property and estates colleagues.
- Prepare monthly VAT returns in compliance with HMRC guidance on Contracted Out Services.
- Provide backup for cash flow forecasting and related Treasury returns.
Financial Control & Advisory
- Contribute to the development of financial policies, procedures, and training materials covering areas such as VAT, asset management, and financial control.
- Offer accounting advice across departments, particularly on transaction treatments, disclosures, and VAT implications.
- Help embed a strong internal control environment with robust Standard Operating Procedures, segregation of duties, and compliance monitoring.
- Continuously identify and implement improvements to enhance financial operations.
- Provide clear task direction, mentorship, and performance oversight to team members.
- Work closely with related teams including Accounts Payable, Management Accounting, Payroll, and Finance Business Partners.

Essential Criteria
- Fully qualified (or part-qualified with one final exam remaining) under a CCAB-recognised accountancy body.
- Proven experience in financial accounting and preparing statutory accounts.
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS, VAT, financial controls, and audit procedures.
- Previous experience managing or mentoring a small team.
- Excellent communication, prioritisation, and stakeholder management skills.

Salary range: National £39,977-£45,831 (London: £42,692-£48561)
