This is an exciting opportunity to join an award-winning big-five publisher in a fast-paced, dynamic and supportive finance team. The Finance team work with each department in the business on budgeting and forecasting revenues and costs, and then tracking how we perform against these targets by producing management information and analysis and helping teams with cost control. We support all commercial decisions such as acquiring the rights of the books we publish and negotiating our contractual terms with our customers and suppliers.
Your role:
Reporting to the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Manager, the Financial Analyst position is key to the Pan Macmillan finance team as you will be the ‘face’ of the team for several areas of the business. You will have exposure to the whole business at all levels, from assistants to the leadership team, and have the opportunity to work with brilliant, creative people who are passionate not just about their work but also about making a difference.
This is a varied role with a key focus on supporting the Pan Macmillan business in managing its book production, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow and FP&A support. Central to the position is business partnering with Pan Macmillan’s Production and Operations teams to manage their manufacturing costs in line with estimates and forecasts. The work you will undertake has a direct impact on key business decisions both in the short and the long term.
Your key responsibilities:
- Financial control and analysis of Production, pre-press and distribution costs. Partnering with the Production and Operations teams to manage their costs in line with estimates and forecasts. Producing regular month-end analysis to assist in the understanding of the company’s financial results. Management of related month-end accounting entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Budgeting, forecasting and reporting of production, pre-press and distribution costs. Working with various teams across Pan Macmillan to produce company-wide budgets and forecasts.
- FP&A Support. Producing and distributing business-critical outputs (Daily Sales, mid-month sales forecast) and supporting the FP&A Manager and FP&A Director with regular and ad-hoc financial reporting needs.
- Balance Sheet and Cash Flow. Produce the company Balance Sheet and Cash Flow for presentation to assist the company in the management of its resources.
Essential experience, abilities and knowledge you’ll need to succeed:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA or ACCA or international equivalent), preferably with some relevant industry experience
- Analytical and financial modelling experience with excellent Excel skills
- Proven ability to improve processes
- Proven ability to meet multiple deadlines
- Commercially minded and adaptable to change
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with colleagues across both finance and non-financial teams.
Desirable skills we’d love you to have:
- Knowledge of SAP and Biblio
- Exposure to AI tools.

This is a full time, permanent role, and will be based in our offices in Farringdon, London, with some flexibility to work from home each week.
