Financial Controller

Location: Hybrid (3 days in the office in mid Essex and 2 days at home)

Salary: circa £65,000 + Benefits

We’re supporting a growing organisation in the appointment of a Financial Controller into a senior, hands-on role within the finance team. This position sits as number two to the Finance Director and has full responsibility for financial reporting, control and analysis across the business.

This role is well suited to a technically strong Financial Controller who enjoys ownership of the numbers, thrives in a fast-paced environment and plays an active role in driving financial discipline and continuous improvement.

As Financial Controller, you will be responsible for the day-to-day, monthly and annual financial reporting, ensuring the P&L and balance sheet are accurate, well controlled and delivered in line with Group deadlines.

Full ownership of monthly financial reporting to gross margin
Review and control of revenue, cost of sales and inventory-related accounts
Preparation and approval of month-end journals and VAT returns

Balance sheet reconciliations and maintenance of strong financial controls

Budgeting and forecasting processes

Intercompany reconciliations

Supporting annual and interim audits

Supporting the Finance Director with ad-hoc analysis and reporting

Deputising for the Finance Director as required

Proactively identifying areas for process improvement and strengthening controls

Maintaining and monitoring control frameworks for key management accounting processes

Managing the finance team

About You

Fully Qualified Accountant (non negotiable)
At least 5 years’ post-qualification experience
Strong background in financial control and reporting
Experience working in a highly controlled environment
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Advanced Excel capability and good systems understanding
Strong communication skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines
A continuous improvement mindset and hands-on approach
Experience working with SAP Business One or S/4HANA would be beneficial
