Financial Director

The Role

Looking for a Head of Finance / Acting CFO to take full ownership of the finance function. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who thrives in dynamic startup environments, has experience scaling finance functions, and is ready to be the most senior finance person in the business from day one.

You’ll be leading a small, capable team and will be instrumental in preparing them for their next phase of growth, including international expansion, equity and debt fundraising, and building the processes and controls of a best-in-class finance operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the finance function (currently 3–5 team members)
• Own and oversee all financial operations: accounting, reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and audits
• Prepare and maintain financial statements and ensure compliance with respective accounting standards
• Drive and support fundraising initiatives (equity and debt)
• Manage audited financials and oversee relationships with external auditors
• Handle cross-border transactions and payments
• Build and maintain scalable, agile financial processes and internal controls
• Provide financial insight and support strategic decision-making across the business
• Work closely with founders and board; potential to be appointed as SMF (Senior Management Function) in due course

What We're Looking For

• ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified (or equivalent)
• Proven experience working across both large and small businesses, ideally with recent startup or scale-up experience
• Demonstrable experience in leading finance in a growing company – ideally as a No.1
• Strong understanding of both UK and US GAAP; experience working with international group structures
• Fundraising experience (debt and/or equity)
• Experience managing audits and preparing investor-ready financials
• Agile, hands-on, and solutions-focused approach
• High integrity, low ego, and a proactive attitude
• Willingness to roll up sleeves and go the extra mile
• Comfortable working at pace in a high-growth, regulated environment
