Interim Finance Director
Location: Remote
Contract Type: Interim – Outside IR35 – 6-12 months initially
Reports To: CEO
Role Overview
Stanton House is exclusively recruiting an experienced Interim Finance Director to lead a finance function during a pivotal phase of growth. Acting as the internal owner of finance, you will work closely with our outsourced accounting partner and the Leadership Team to bring control, rigour to financial operations. You will ensure compliance, scalability, and strategic decision support across multiple geographies and revenue streams, enabling sustainable growth and operational excellence.
Financial Management & Control
- Own all financial processes and controls, ensuring a compliant, accurate, and professionally managed finance function.
- Lead relationships with outsourced accounting and payroll providers, ensuring service quality and alignment with business needs.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with timely and accurate reporting.
- Ensure accurate journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and deferred revenue recognition.
- Maintain compliance with FRS 102, IFRS, and UK GAAP accounting standards.
- Oversee tax filings and compliance with HMRC and Companies House regulations.
- Prepare for and manage external audit processes, liaising with auditors as required.
- Maintain general ledger integrity, optimise chart of accounts, and ensure robust accounting policy documentation.
Strategic & Commercial Planning
- Lead the annual budgeting process, rolling forecasts, and scenario modelling.
- Partner with the CEO and commercial leads to provide financial planning, investment appraisal, and decision-making support.
- Monitor revenue, margins, and project-level profitability, implementing KPIs and management dashboards.
Pricing & Project Control
- Review and optimise pricing models, utilisation rates, and commercial proposals.
- Work with Delivery and Business Development teams to ensure projects achieve target gross margins.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Oversee the ongoing development and integration of financial systems to improve accuracy, efficiency, and insight.
- Standardise financial reporting, cost management, and performance tracking processes.
Cashflow, Tax & Risk
- Maintain robust cash flow forecasts, working capital controls, and foreign exchange risk management.
- Actively manage receivables to optimise cash flow while maximising returns on cash assets.
- Oversee all tax compliance requirements (VAT, CT600, PAYE, pensions).
- Manage R&D tax credit claims and identify other tax optimisation opportunities.
Skills & Experience
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- A proven track record in a Finance Director or senior finance leadership role, from a professional services environment demonstrating control of project spend (ESSENTIAL)
- Experience reviewing and optimising pricing models, utilisation rates, and commercial proposals.
- Strong understanding of multi-entity, multi-currency operations and revenue recognition in project-based businesses.
- Hands-on experience with outsourced finance models and managing third-party providers.
- Strong systems and process improvement skills, with the ability to implement fit-for-purpose tools and reporting.
- Commercial acumen with the ability to balance strategic insight and operational detail.
