Background
This role will require the post-holder to begin their role, including training, from week commencing 15 th September 2025.
As part of your application, please outline your availability between Monday 15 th and Thursday 18 th September.
You will be employed at a Grade 3 and receive annual leave entitlement (bookable paid time off) in addition to set leave during the University’s closure days , which we would encourage you to take during assessment periods.

Role Summary
Training:
- Knowledge of the support, resources and opportunities offered by Careers Network.
- Event registration data collection, employer meet and greet procedures and etiquette.
- Desk-based training on Careers Connect and other relevant platforms or software.
- Familiarisation with University data protection, branding and marketing guidelines.
- Regular updates in any changes of procedures and operations.
- Working knowledge of all key locations and services within the Employer Team.

Main Duties
- Act as an ambassador for the service, demonstrating the professionalism, expertise and friendliness of Careers Network to students, employers and staff.
- Action Careers Connect vacancy and organisation approvals using the Careers Network approvals and due diligence processes.
- Represent Careers Network at employer events, including meeting employers and registering students, providing high quality first-line customer service experience.
- Support with the administration and operational delivery of careers fairs: setting up stands; meeting, directing and assisting employers; registering students.
- Collaborate with the Student Engagement Manager and Student Communications Assistants to create employer-focused social media, blog, video and podcast content.
- Assist the Employer Team with organisation and general administrative office duties, such as data entry, preparing signage and paper materials.
- Assist with the maintenance of employer contact databases, ensuring that the information we hold is accurate and kept up to date.
- Other duties and ad-hoc tasks supporting projects for the Employer Relations Team.
Person Specification
- A current student at the University of Birmingham (any level of study or degree discipline) through the academic year 2025/26.
- Demonstrable interest in and understanding of issues around careers and employability, and / or your personal and professional development.
- Demonstrable experience of professionalism, providing excellent customer service / support, and confidence in speaking to customers and students on a one-to-one basis.
- Excellent written and oral communication, with the ability to adapt to different groups.
- Strong attention to detail, organisation and time-management skills.
- Digital literacy and adaptability, and ability to use MS Office / MS 365 programmes.
- Strong interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy, with enthusiasm to engage others.
- Understanding of marketing a product or service, content creation and social media.
- Flexibility in switching between both creative and administrative tasks.
- A positive, teamwork, enthusiastic, flexible and problem-solving approach to working.
- Commitment to the working hours and contract duration.
