The role
Are you passionate about the environment and interested in influencing and enforcing waste legislation to ultimately prevent fly tipping in Wales. Are you an excellent manager with knowledge of waste legislation and experience in applying regulatory activities? If so, then this might be the right role for you.
We have an opportunity for an experienced manager to lead the Fly Tipping Action Wales team to deliver its work programme and engage with all relevant stakeholders to support delivery of the Wales Fly-tipping Strategy. This dynamic role will give you an opportunity to explore and develop an expertise in various waste areas.
You will be working at a Wales & UK level with government departments, other environmental regulators and Local Authorities providing technical support, enforcing waste legislation and assist in development of Fly Tipping Prevention policy. You will contribute to the delivery of team priorities and objectives.
As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

About Us
We are Natural Resources Wales (NRW). We are the largest Welsh Government Sponsored Body, focussed on tackling the climate, nature and pollution emergencies. We are responsible for more than 40 different types of regulatory regime across a wide range of activities, including the waste sector. For most of these activities we grant permits, undertake compliance assessment and, where necessary, take formal enforcement action.
The Fly Tipping Action Team Leader has line management responsibility for a mix of Senior and Environment Officers, Project Officers and Technical Support. The team deliver a wide range of work across project work, regulatory and enforcement activities. The team works closely with other NRW teams and public authorities across Wales making a tangible difference within their place and community.
The team sits within the Southeast Operations structure, alongside another Environment Team, Waste Regulation, Industry Regulation Teams and Environment Analysis and Assessment Teams, reporting to the Southeast Operations Manager.

What You Will Do
- Develop and implement work plans to deliver our agreed commitments, recognising our wider Place and Wales-wide priorities.
- Lead on stakeholder and partner engagement.
- Be responsible for regulatory decisions at place level, ensuring adherence to the Regulators Code and our Regulatory Principles.
- Lead and develop staff and plan, monitor and manage resources to deliver workplan to budget and timescale.
- Lead engagement with relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of team members by implementing and monitoring safe working practices and risk assessments.
- Provide specialist technical advice and guidance to enhance risk-based decision making.
- Have budgetary control of team spending.
- Produce relevant procedures and documentation. Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post
