Job Overview
An exciting opportunity to join the North Bristol Trust Medical Education Team as a Foundation Training Programme Director has arisen.
The Foundation Training Programme Director (TPD) is jointly responsible for the overall management and quality control of the North Bristol Trust Foundation programme. This is a new post to join two pre-existing Foundation TPD posts in the Trust, as a result of the increase in foundation doctor numbers.
The postholder will work with the local lead educators to ensure that each placement within the Foundation rotations and the programme as a whole, meets the NHSE and UKFPO training standards for training and that each foundation doctor is able to access a comprehensive range of experiences which will enable them to gain the competencies necessary for full registration and completion of foundation training.
Main duties of the job
Education
The TPD will work in close partnership with the DME, the Foundation TPD team, Medical Education Manager and the Foundation School to:
- Manage and quality control a specified Foundation training programme.
- Ensure that the training programme meets the requirements of the educational contracts or agreements for foundation training.
- Ensure that each programme and its constituent rotations have a current job plan that meets the educational aims specified for the programme and mapped to the curriculum.
- Ensure that each placement in the programme meets the educational aims specified for the placement. This should include a clear description that outlines how the competences, including the general professional competences, are covered in each placement.
- Chair or co-chair the F1 for F2 Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) panels.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- Collect evidence about attendance and performance to corroborate the content of individual foundation doctor’s e-portfolios and enable decisions about recommendations for registration and certification.
- Evaluate induction, generic teaching and supervision to ensure it meets minimum standards.
- Ensure that all educational and clinical supervisors have received appropriate training (including equality and diversity training) for their role as educators, supervisors and assessors.
- Ensure that all educational supervisors are familiar with the required national documentation to be completed prior to completion of foundation training and for revalidation.
- Ensure that there is an effective method of selection and reselection of educational and clinical supervisors in conjunction with the Director of Medical Education and Educational Leads.
- Liaise regularly with HEESW and the Severn Foundation Programme Director and local Severn FPDs to ensure a shared and coordinated approach to the development and management of Foundation training programmes.
- Attend HEESW Foundation School management committee meetings.

- Be aware of clinical and corporate governance in relation to medical education
- Have knowledge of commissioning services and management structures in medical education

- Evidence of having supported trainees
