What You'll Be Doing
We're looking for a Fraud Strategy & Analytics Specialist to drive clarity, insight, and direction across Cleo’s fraud landscape. This role sits at the intersection of data, risk, and operations, and is critical to ensuring we protect users and the business while continuing to scale access to financial support.
You’ll lead the team that analyses Cleo’s fraud performance, surfaces attack trends, and drives mitigation strategy across the business. You’ll be working alongside a fully stacked product team full of passionate people. This isn’t just about reporting: you’ll set the overall fraud strategy, work with the PM to help shape the roadmap, set policy, and identify systemic risk. You'll work closely with Business Ops, Product, Engineering, and Compliance to bring structure, insight, and forward motion to some of Cleo’s highest-leverage problems.
This is an ideal role for someone who combines sharp analytical thinking with domain fluency, and who wants to build systems, processes, and strategy.
Roles & Responsibilities
Pillar leadership
Own fraud insights and analytics
- You’ll be the face of fraud prevention, detection, and response at Cleo, owning key company metrics
- Lead a team of analysts to deliver reporting, investigation, and trend analysis across disbursements, repayments, identity abuse, and platform misuse
- Define and iterate on key fraud metrics (e.g. fraud rate, false positive rate, loss per user) and track performance across initiatives and vendors
- Deep-dive attack vectors and failure modes to inform system and policy improvements
Shape Cleo’s fraud strategy
- Identify where our current detection, eligibility, or operational controls are falling short and recommend where to invest
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering at Cleo as well as our third party fraud vendors to design smarter prevention mechanisms and higher-fidelity risk signals
- Balance user experience, growth, and protection in how we scale access to financial products
Partner and influence across the org
- Translate fraud insights into clear priorities for Product, Ops, Compliance, and Vendor teams
- Support roadmap planning and vendor evaluation by contributing data, risk trade-offs, and policy context
- Help Cleo respond to new fraud threats and regulatory shifts with structure and foresight
Scale our operating model
- Build tooling, processes, and frameworks to make Cleo more responsive, data-driven, and proactive in tackling fraud
- Own team rituals and planning for the fraud analytics function
- Help hire, onboard, and level up new analysts and operational partners as the function grows
About You
- Proven experience in fraud or risk mitigation roles in fintech, payments, or financial services
- Excellent analytical skills with fluency in turning raw data into actionable insight (strong SQL skills required; python a nice to have)
- Experience managing or mentoring analysts; you know how to structure and prioritise team output
- Strong understanding of fraud typologies (e.g. ATO, synthetic identity, repayment abuse), detection methods, and mitigation trade-offs
- Confidence influencing stakeholders across product, engineering, and compliance
- Commercial awareness: you understand how fraud interacts with key business economics (losses, margins, user experience)
- A bias to action and continuous improvement: you’re comfortable iterating, challenging assumptions, and learning fast
Nice To Have
- Experience with third-party fraud tools or vendor management
- Familiarity with short term and revolving credit products
- Exposure to both UK and US regulatory frameworks

UK App access: The Cleo app is no longer downloadable in the UK (but only until next year). If you’re an existing user, you’ll still have access to the app. But some features won’t be available (just for a little while). Why? 99% of our users are based in the US – where financial health is often overlooked. We’ve decided to shift our focus to where we can provide the most value and make the greatest impact for users who need it most. Then we’ll be able to apply what we learn to better support our UK users in the future.
