The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don't just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities, and our environment.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate freshwater ecologist to help create, analyse and report data on the ecological health of the aquatic environment in the East Midlands.
You will carry out a range of tasks, including:
- Analysing invertebrate samples to mixed-taxon level
- Using a range of databases to enter and extract data
- Analysing data and writing reports
- Working with internal teams and external stakeholders to influence and deliver projects with environmental benefits
- Plant surveys in rivers and lakes
- River Habitat Surveys (RHS)
- Responding to pollution incidents
You should be willing to undertake specialist training where necessary.
We work flexibly but you will need to carry out laboratory and field-based duties as required. You will therefore work in our Trentside laboratory in Nottingham to sort and identify invertebrate samples which will form part of your workload. You will also be involved in fieldwork and partnership working across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. At other times you may have the opportunity to work from home.
This role requires a Full UK Driving Licence.
Participation in incident response is expected, including drought, pollution and flooding.
