ROLE OVERVIEW //
We are recruiting for an experienced Global Mobility Adviser to join the Human Resources (HR) department on a permanent basis.
The HR department comprises the following teams – Recruitment, HR Advisory & Diversity & Inclusion, HR Systems & MI, Global Mobility, Reward, Benefits & Wellbeing, Employee Relations and Early Careers Development.
The Senior Global Mobility Manager manages the Global Mobility team-members comprising of two Global Mobility Advisers.
The Global Mobility Advisers will be responsible for providing support to the Senior Global Mobility Manager to ensure the successful delivery of the global mobility framework and procedure, including immigration, relocation and associated governance. The role supports both the business and individuals to ensure moves are compliant, efficient, and beneficial for career development and firm strategy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES //
The key responsibilities of this role are set out below and there may be others which are not listed. You may be required on occasion to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.
- Coordinate and track international secondments (e.g. to overseas offices or relationship firms), including preparing secondment documentation, cost projections for the Secondment Committee, and briefings.
- Support visa and immigration applications, often working with external providers.
- Track visa expiry dates and ensure timely renewals or exits to maintain compliance.
- Advise partners, HR, and secondees on mobility risks, benefits, and logistics.
- Liaise with internal and external tax advisers to manage tax briefings, equalisation, and employer obligations.
- Ensure compliance with home and host country requirements, e.g. employment law, payroll, and social security.
- Apply the firm’s global mobility and secondment policies consistently and help maintain and improve policy documents, processes, and internal guidance.
- Maintain accurate data on secondees and secondments.
- Prepare reports for senior leadership or committees on secondment activity, trends, and costs.
- Assist the Senior Global Mobility Manager to enhance the lawyer experience and support career development.
- Assist the Senior Global Mobility Manager to enable strategic talent movement to meet client and business needs.
- Support the firm’s reputation and relationships through smooth secondments and risk mitigation.
- Responsible for collating per diem, expenses, and payroll spreadsheets for overseas secondments.
- Responsible for the annual per diem review for short-term secondees.
- Escalate policy or process exceptions, compliance risks or vendor performance issues and secondee complaints to Senior Global Mobility Manager and stakeholders where appropriate.
- Responsible for the annual salary and discretionary bonus reviews, together with the bi-annual overseas allowance and fixed exchange rate review for long-term secondees.
- Responsible for annual Global Mobility projected budget for Finance.
- Keeping abreast of industry trends and developments, through a strong network of external contacts both within and outside the legal sector and making recommendations for change within the firm where appropriate.
CANDIDATE PROFILE //
Candidates for this position must have:
- Experience working in a similar role (i.e. inhouse) within a professional services environment.
- Client focused and commercially minded with the ability to adapt approach and service.
- Strong understanding of immigration and tax issues in key jurisdictions such as UK, HK, EU, and US.
- Experience of using HR systems (Workday HR experience would be advantageous) and producing reports.
- Experience working cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and Compliance.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, especially when supporting senior stakeholders.
- Knowledge of secondment models (e.g. client, international office, relationship firm).
- The ability to build strong business relationships with internal and external contacts and the resilience to deal with demanding individuals.
- Proactive, prepared to take a hands-on approach to managing their workload using their own initiative.
- Comfortable accepting instructions and guidance from different key stakeholders and managing several priorities at one time.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team but comfortable working on their own.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to multi-task, keep calm under pressure and work to tight deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Experience of Microsoft Office Packages (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Experience of working in a diverse team whilst fostering an inclusive team culture.
- High level of professionalism and integrity; displaying the highest standard of professional ethics.
- A willingness to provide feedback, share information, contribute ideas and suggestions as necessary.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written, spoken and presentational, including strong influencing skills.
