The Team:
Global Risk Management (GRM) leads company-wide initiatives for managing risk and sustaining a strong risk culture, including the development and implementation of independent risk management measures. GRM is responsible for managing the Bank's risk framework and key risk types including strategic risk, credit risk, market risk, liquidity risk, operational risk, compliance risk and reputational risk. We oversee the company’s governance and strategy for global risk management, including relationships with key regulators and supervisory institutions worldwide.
Programme Overview:
The Global Quantitative Data Summer Analyst Programme is a 10-week summer internship and precursor for the Global Quantitative Data Analyst Programme designed to develop and coach quantitative and analytical talent.
As an intern, you will complete on-the-desk work with your assigned team and apply quantitative and analytical methods to specific financial challenges. Throughout the internship, you will engage in challenging projects and opportunities to advance your career and development in addition to engaging in learning and professional development opportunities, networking and volunteer events, mentorship, speaker series, and more.
Training and Development:
Your training and development is our top priority with extensive formal training offered at the start of the programme in addition to on-the-job support, events, and mentorship throughout.
Responsibilities:
As a Summer Analyst, you will be placed on one team where your primary responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Extracting, processing, and interpreting data to support decision-making, including the potential for complex modeling
- Conducting research and analysis, including assessing internal and public data, to provide a micro view of risk and/or financial management in a particular business line and a macro view for the organisation
- Applying quantitative and analytical knowledge to specific financial challenges and projects specific to your business alignment
- Assessing market trends and providing quantitative data for internal partners and ultimately, clients
- Implementing solutions applying both qualitative and quantitative methods
- Networking with risk executives and key stakeholders to cultivate meaningful relationships across various lines of business.
Eligibility
- Candidates are required to be pursuing an undergraduate or advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) from an accredited college or university in quantitative disciplines such as Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Quantitative Finance, Data Analytics, or Economics. Academic semester and all studies should be complete, with a graduation timeframe between September 2026 and July 2027.
- Achieved minimum of 112 UCAS point (or equivalent) and on track for a minimum 2:1 degree classification (or equivalent)
- Able to join the programme in June 2026
Candidates who perform well during the internship may be offered full time employment to commence in July 2027; some lines of business may also offer the opportunity of a January or April start date. You must be available to join on one of these start dates if offered, unfortunately we are unable to offer deferrals.
What We Are Looking For
Essential:
- Have understanding and expertise in relevant technical areas which can include numerical analysis, statistics, data analytics, time series analysis, probability theory, optimization techniques, machine learning or high-performance computing.
- Have experience in computer programming, preferably in Python, C++, R and/or MATLAB
- Strong technical writing and clear verbal communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, multitask and properly prioritize work
- Fluency in English, which is essential for all roles. A second language may be advantageous.
- Team-working, leadership and problem-solving skills are key qualities along with the proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a variety of people.
Desired:
- Have experience in working with data structures, data integration and data cleaning
- Experience in data visualization tools including Tableau, Hadoop and/or PowerBI
- Experience in financial and mathematical modeling
