The Electrospinning Company is pioneering the application of nanofibre technologies for tissue engineering. We design, develop and manufacture advanced materials for our clients, primarily nanofibre polymer scaffolds for medical device applications.
The Position
We are looking for an early career research scientist/engineer to join our R&D team working on cutting-edge medical devices with a proven vision to improve patients’ lives.
The role will involve the design and development of electrospun biomaterials and coatings on a project basis, contributing to multiple client and in-house projects. The role involves the practical application of research and engineering to develop novel process solutions. The desired candidate will have strong technical skills to work on complex projects with a wide range of medical applications. Strong collaboration, communication and creativity are essential, as well as the ability to adapt to new challenges and work well in teams.
The nature of the position will allow the candidate exposure to the newest and most dynamic medical device innovators in the world, as our many projects are in collaboration with international universities, medical device start-ups, key opinion leaders and multinational corporations.
The Electrospinning Company will provide training in electrospinning and device design, process design, and working to medical device quality standards. As we grow in our operations, so will you, and opportunities to develop beyond this role will be available to those with ambition and drive.
Key responsibilities will include
● Hands-on research and engineering to develop novel technical solutions
● Polymer processing to a high scientific standard
● Preparing, designing, and executing experiments independently
● Delivering technical tasks on schedule and to a high standard
● Assisting with process development from early prototyping through to commercialisation
● Analysing data and sharing research findings and opportunities through reports and presentations to the wider team and to clients directly
● Liaising with approved or potential suppliers and clients on projects
● Operating specialist electrospinning equipment, high tech metrology and engineering equipment
● Maintaining excellent lab records and assisting with documentation under ISO:13485
● Working to, and maintaining, Quality standards
● Troubleshooting lab and equipment issues
The experience and skills we are looking for
● A degree in a relevant scientific discipline (BSc/MSc/Meng/PhD) relating to medical device engineering, chemistry, physics, materials science or similar (other degrees with lab/chemical handling experience will be considered)

● Experience in running projects independently
● Ensuring a safe working environment and operating in a safe manner within a laboratory
● Practical experience operating basic laboratory and engineering equipment
● Desirable - Experience in medical manufacturing or other regulated industry
● Desirable - Experience in handling hazardous chemicals
● Desirable - Basic 3D modelling/CAD drawing experience

Position: Full-time, permanent, 37.5hrs/week
Full salary: £32-35k per year
