We are committed to the highest standards of food safety and quality, and we are now looking for a motivated
Graduate Food Microbiologist to join our Group Technical Services team. This is a stand-alone, mobile role reporting directly to our technical lead, offering the opportunity to grow into the company’s in-house microbiology expert within two years.
The Role
This is a graduate-level, non-lab-based technical position where you will:
- Travel to sites across the UK to provide on-site microbiological support and technical guidance.
- Oversee laboratory contract services, ensuring all microbiological testing (raw materials, in-process, finished product, environmental swabs) meets internal and industry standards.
- Investigate out-of-specification results, assist with root cause analysis, and help implement corrective actions.
- Translate microbiological test data into clear, practical language for site teams.
- Support cleaning process validation and verification across multiple sites.
- Carry out microbiological risk assessments for plant, product, and process.
- Keep up to date with legislation, scientific developments, and food safety best practice.
About You
- (internship or placement in a food laboratory is highly desirable).
- Full UK driving licence essential (mobile role with site travel).
- Understanding of microbiological testing techniques (e.g., plating, enrichment, PCR methods).
- Ability to interpret results and clearly communicate findings to non-technical teams.
- Familiarity with key food pathogens (Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli) and spoilage organisms.
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, and BRCGS standards (desirable).
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
