Where will you be working?

As an organisation, there is little we don’t do and plenty to get involved in. Our Group Support roles are vital in making sure we can help over 11,000 people deliver essential infrastructure seamlessly across water, energy, transport and telecom.

This role is in our Group Commercial team. The Group Commercial team works closely with the company divisions to ensure continuity and accuracy of commercial contracts.

What will you be doing?

As the Group Commercial Lead for Assurance & Process, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and ensuring the integrity, compliance, and strategic alignment of commercial processes within the organisation. This role will require a detail-oriented professional who can manage commercial risks, implement assurance processes, and provide guidance to key stakeholders. It will be your overall responsibility to oversee the development, implementation and continuous improvement of both the 1st Line of Commercial Assurance through the Divisional Commercial Teams and the 2nd Line of Commercial Assurance through the Group Commercial Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a consistent and accurate Cost Value Reporting (CVR) for all contracts across the Group with Divisional CVR Management Reviews. .
  • Lead Deep Dives Reviews into monthly CVR submissions to ensure that costs, revenues, and profitability are correctly tracked and reported with formal reporting feedback to individual Divisions and shared across Group.
  • Implement trend-analysis reporting from CVR reports to support early identification and intervention across all contracts with automated management reporting of CVR’s at both Divisional and Group level.
  • Introduce best practices and automation tools to streamline CVR processes, enhancing reporting efficiency and accuracy
  • Develop, implement, and maintain commercial assurance processes across all divisions and at group level covering the entire project lifecycle from work winning to contract close.
  • Develop and produce monthly and quarterly reporting of all commercial assurance findings and actions to M Group Executive.
  • Create and lead annual commercial audit plans across all divisions built around the divisional commercial assurance plans incorporating early intervention reviews and deep dives into contracts and CVRs.
  • Develop with the Divisional Commercial Directors and their teams a strategic approach to the implementation of an overarching Commercial Business Management System (BMS) for M Group with appropriate processes in place at both group, divisional and contracting entity levels.
  • Develop training materials and guidance documents to support the successful implementation of all new commercial procedures and systems across M Group.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or related field
  • Relevant professional certifications such as RICS or CICES
  • Established senior experience in commercial management
  • Experience of development, implementation and assurance of commercial processes and procedures across a Tier 1 UK Contractor
  • An established background of working with various contract types and contracting arrangements (i.e. term maintenance and renewal frameworks, enterprise arrangements, capital delivery projects, etc.)
  • Proficiency in identifying and mitigating risks / maximising opportunities associated with construction projects
