A founder led, biopharmaceutical company who focus on developing and delivering treatments for rare genetic diseases are currently seeking a new Group General Counsel. This is a pivotal leadership role at the heart of this dynamic growing business. Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a trusted advisor to the Executive Team, CFO and Board.

Primarily, this role will serve as principal legal adviser to the CEO, CFO, Board, and senior leadership team while leading on all legal and governance matters across the company’s UK and US operations. Having recently completed their first acquisition in the US, they are headquartered in the UK with a growing presence in the US markets.

This role works alongside the Executive Committee and contributes to strategic decision-making across the business. The position is based in their global headquarters in Cambridge and we envision a successful candidate will mirror the wider Executive Committee and work collaboratively from their office 3 days a week.

What’s on offer?

This leadership role has significant scope and oversight from day one as you will be responsible for overseeing all legal, governance and compliance matters across the organisation whilst inheriting an existing legal team structure across the business.

As mentioned, the function takes direct ownership over everything related to Legal as well as Compliance, Corporate managing external counsel. The role also offers the opportunity to continue to develop their growing presence in the US market while continuing to manage the fast growth across the UK.

A fully comprehensive compensation package is available for this role which will include a competitive base salary, bonus, long term incentive shares, as well as the usual benefits.

About you

This is a senior position within the business and will suit those who have previous experience in fast-changing, dynamic environments. Due to the recent acquisition in the US, experience navigating UK and US regulatory landscapes is advantageous.

Given the highly specialised nature of the sector, this opportunity is best suited to individuals with experience in the pharmaceutical industry or closely aligned fields such as biotechnology or medical devices. At a minimum, candidates should demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for life sciences and a strong understanding of the complex regulatory landscape that governs this space.

For guidance purposes only, you’re likely to have in excess of 15 years of post-qualified experience with experience holding a strategic leadership position. Fundamentally, this is a dynamic business that require a highly effective General Counsel and will be expecting strong and effective decision making and advice from their Legal function to the CEO and the Board.
