As a
Hazardous Waste Regulation Officer you'll be joining the South East Waste Regulation Team as the dedicated Hazardous Waste Lead for your area. In this role, you'll play a key part in protecting the environment by ensuring businesses comply with Hazardous Waste Regulations. You'll be based at our office
Rivers House in St Mellons, Cardiff.
Your primary focus will be assessing how waste producers manage and classify hazardous materials-making sure records are accurate, consignment notes are correctly completed, and legal requirements are met.
This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a specialist area, make a visible impact on environmental compliance, and work with a team passionate about safeguarding our natural resources.
As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

About Us
The team you will be based in has 11 officers covering Waste Regulation, Tackling Waste Crime, Waste Enforcement and Fisheries Enforcement. The team is located in the South East Operations team that focuses on placed based priorities in South East Wales.
What You Will Do
- Assess compliance with the hazardous waste regulations across both EPR regulated and non-EPR regulated facilities.
- Act as lead hazardous waste officer within South East place team, identifying the key hazardous waste priorities within the area.
- Strategically use waste data to inform hazardous waste interventions/campaigns.
- Deliver and record the hazardous waste compliance work listed in the Regulatory Service Plan.
- Take appropriate actions to collect evidence for enforcement purposes, in accordance with defined procedures.
- Participate in the development of the virtual hazardous waste team work plans.
- Produce required documentation to support legal action.
- Seek to influence customers and establish local partnerships and collaborations as opportunities arise to deliver SMNR.
- Respond to incidents and complaints.
- Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post

Your Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge And Skills

- Knowledge and experience of working as a regulator.
- Understanding of commercial business processes and pressures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with regulated business and the public, explaining issues and gaining support by influencing.
Welsh Language Level Requirements
- Desirable: Level A1 - Entry level (able to use and understand simple, basic phrases and greetings, no conversational Welsh)
