We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated and capable person to the above position. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team in the delivery of care within a 17-bedded male acute inpatient ward. The service provides short-term, intensive support for individuals experiencing acute episodes of severe mental illness. There must be a commitment to developing knowledge and skills relevant to working in an acute mental health environment.

Main duties of the job

This 17-bedded male acute ward, located within the Hergest Unit on the grounds of Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, is recognised as a vital and integral component of the Adult Mental Health service provision for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.

The appointed person must be able to undertake shift work which includes weekends and night shifts on an internal rotation basis.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria

  • NVQ 2

Desirable criteria

  • To be willing to undertake an NVQ 3 or equivalent in mental health care provision. Or be working towards level 3 to be achieved within 18months of appointment and with relevant experience in providing care to acutely unwell mental health adults.
  • Food Hygiene certificate
  • Health or Social Care Courses
  • Experience of working with individuals and/or families with complex needs

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Previous experience within the mental Health care setting

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working with people suffering serious mental illness
  • Experience of working within a locked environment
  • Experience of working within care settings
  • Experience of working with individuals and/or families with complex needs
  • Experience of working as part of a multi disciplinary team.
