Job Summary
The Head of Broker Facilities plays a pivotal role within the Portfolio Underwriting division, with end-to-end ownership of a diverse suite of broker-led facilities. This includes large cross-class facilities such as Aon Client Treaty, Marsh FastTrack, Ardonagh Lectio, Amwins Amplify, and McGill & Partners Auton, as well as approximately 25 single-class broker facilities. The role is responsible for underwriting oversight, performance monitoring, broker relationship management, data and analytics, and regulatory compliance. It also includes line management of a team of 3-4 underwriters and underwriting assistants.
The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and strong leadership to ensure the facilities are aligned with Beazley’s underwriting strategy, deliver profitable growth, and meet operational and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Portfolio Management
- Lead the development, underwriting, and performance management of all broker facilities within the portfolio.
- Monitor and manage key performance indicators including EPI, acquisition costs, claims ratios, indexation, and adoption by class.
- Oversee the design, launch, and optimisation of new broker facilities in collaboration with brokers and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure underwriting practices align with Beazley’s control standards and Lloyd’s requirements, including the 9000 consortium model.
- Maintain a strong understanding of catastrophe modelling, exposure management, and reserving practices across all relevant classes.
Leadership & Team Management
- Manage and develop a team of underwriters and assistants, providing coaching, performance management, and career development.
- Set clear objectives and foster a collaborative, high-performance culture within the team.
- Drive innovation in facility design and underwriting practices, leveraging emerging technologies and data analytics to enhance performance and efficiency
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a key liaison between Portfolio Underwriting and internal functions including operations, compliance, actuarial, finance, and data teams.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with facility brokers and reinsurance brokers to ensure alignment and mutual success.
- Work closely with claims managers to ensure effective claims handling and reserving processes.
Business Strategy & Governance
- Support the Head of Portfolio Underwriting in business planning, outward reinsurance, and third-party capital initiatives.
- Shape and communicate a long-term vision for broker facilities, aligning underwriting strategy with broader business objectives and market dynamics
- Act as the gatekeeper for all financial and performance data related to broker facilities, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Lead or contribute to strategic projects, governance forums, and working groups as required.

- Promote knowledge sharing across underwriting teams to drive consistency, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the development of marketing materials, presentations, and internal communications to support the broker facilities strategy.

Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

- Intermediate to advanced Excel and Power BI skills; familiarity with VIPR advantageous.

Knowledge And Experience
- Deep understanding of underwriting at a portfolio level across multiple classes and territories.
- Experience in broker facility design, development, and performance management.
- Understanding of pricing and reserving methodologies, catastrophe modelling, and exposure management.
- Working knowledge of reinsurance structures (e.g., Stop Loss, Cat XOL, Facultative).
- Solid understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements in the London Market.
