Salary: PO12 £73,266-£86,121 (Inclusive of Market Supplement)
Location: Hackney Service Centre / Flexible Hybrid
Recruiting in partnership with Goodman Masson
Goodman Masson is partnering with Hackney Council to recruit an experienced Head of Building Safety to lead a high-profile service that plays a critical role in safeguarding residents across the borough. With the introduction of the Building Safety Act and wider regulatory change, Hackney is investing significantly in building safety, creating the conditions for genuine transformation.
In this leadership role, you will shape and deliver the Council's building safety strategy, overseeing policy development, governance, safety cases, inspections and compliance programmes. You will manage a multidisciplinary team and act as the Council's senior subject-matter expert, offering guidance to elected members, senior leaders and regulators.
You will drive operational excellence, ensure clarity and transparency for residents, and embed strong risk and compliance frameworks across the housing portfolio. Collaboration is central, and you will work closely with internal departments, external partners and regulatory bodies.
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
Strong technical expertise in building safety, fire safety or compliance.
Senior leadership experience within a local authority, housing provider or similarly complex organisation.
In-depth knowledge of the Building Safety Act, building safety cases and risk management.
Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage budgets and oversee contractor performance.
Professional membership (RICS, CIOB, CABE, IFE, IFSM, IOSH or similar) is highly regarded.
This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact by shaping a modern building safety service that meets the needs of residents and supports Hackney's ambitions.
