Head of Corporate Reserving in our
Reserving team
.
The successful candidate will lead the Corporate Actuarial team at Sompo International. This team sits within the broader Corporate Reserving function and primarily supports the quarterly reserving process. In addition, it plays a key role in several other areas that are critical to the effective operation of the wider reserving framework.
Location: This position will be based out of our

Our Business, Your Impact, Our Opportunity
What you’ll be doing:
- Coordinate the Sompo International quarterly reserving process.
- Develop and maintain the Reserving Framework and associated controls, ensuring they are fully documented, executed and up to date.
- Chair the Group Catastrophe Reserving Committee.
- Be the Reserving Function’s Lead and a key leader in the wider Finance Function in driving improvements in best practise through use of AI and cutting-edge technology:
- Collaborate with the Finance and Ceded Functions to improve efficiency in the quarterly financial close process and automated detection of anomalies
- Vision and inplement the next phase of operational, analytical and reporting enhancements to the Reserving process
- Oversee maintenance and development of the front end of the Sompo Reserving Platform.
- Liaise with all parts of reserving and key stakeholders on a regular basis to identify “pain points” and suggest and implement solutions
- In conjunction with Global Review and Analysis team, oversee Group Level deep dives and provide support to the peer review process for the actuarial central estimate indications produced by the divisional teams.
- Work closely with the Finance and IT functions on designing and implementing improvements to the overall data architecture.
- Work with the Ceded and Finance functions to increase efficiencies in the ceded reserving process.
- Produce, and continually enhance, the key deliverables for the Group Reserving Function such as the Group Reserve Committee and CFO Briefing for review by senior reserving leadership.
- Work with Sompo Japan to ensure a group-wide consistent reserving approach.
What You’ll Bring
- A qualified actuary with experience preferably in a senior reserving role.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills, including a proven ability to build relationships with senior management and underwriting teams.
- The candidate must be well-organised, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and consistently meet deadlines without compromising quality.
- Some degree of managerial experience is required.
- Strong IT skills are required, including proficiency with the usual MS Office Products and some programming experience would be beneficial.
- Familiarity with ResQ would be highly beneficial.
- Some experience with modeling ceded reinsurance would be beneficial.
